ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!!
It has been pointed out that my video is actually showing a 6-pin 6-connectors (6P6C) RJ11. I was shipped the wrong thing and clearly didn’t not notice until after uploading. This video will work if you have the 4-pin connector or the 6-pin 4-connectors (6P4C) RJ11. The sequence for 6-pin is (left to right):
White-Green • White Orange • Solid Blue • White Blue • Solid Orange • Solid Green
Really anything arrangement can work as long as they are the same on both ends.

At my house, I ran new Cat6 cables for my new home networking setup. In this video, I show you how I converted the existing a Cat5e cable into a Cat3/RJ11 connection to be used as a phone line (For home resale purposes). This was done so I could plug and connect into my new 4 port wall outlet.
This video is a clip from my full length video, which discuss adding a custom home networking panel: • HOME NETWORKING 101: A...

This video was extremely helpful for my current project. Just a thought, for those that may not be good with cables like this, no need to trim that much off until you put your colored wires in order. Makes it incredibly easier. They also make pass through connectors now which make things unbelievably easier now.

@@scorpian3366 Cat 5E should handle 1000Mbps. If you need more than that, you would need to upgrade to Cat 6. Does that answer your question?

You see the little hole on the far right side of the cutting blade, that’s designed to put your wire in and the blade be at the perfect height for only getting the jacket. You don’t need to cut it so much and it doesn’t need to cut all the way, just a score will allow you to break it off super easy by bending it.

I have a sensor cable I need to make for a woodworking machine and dust collector. It uses a phone jack, but rather than 2 or 4 wires, like a normal phone connection, this sensor needs a 6 wire set up. So would I use a 6P6C phone jack connector? And just get a 6 conductor cable? Do they make a 6 only conductor cable or do you have to buy an 8 conductor and just not use two of them? Thx

The blue pair is industry standard, but if you keep things the same on both sides it would be fine using a different set. It will however, confuse who ever is coming in behind you. As for up doubling pairs, I doubt it would help anything, especially on an analog line.

It's way easier to get the wires in the correct order if you leave them a little longer like you had in the beginning and then cut them down

I have a question, i am very new to this and have no idea what your saying and what im doing but i will try to explain, i wanted to replace my telephone jack inside the jack it has these exact same color wires that you have and amout of wires. My new jack has 4 screws or posts. I tried to use all the wires and my home phone didn't work. I have my main phone the one that gets plugged into a jack in another room . So i hooked up just 4 wires i used the solid colors only on the 4 screws my phone works now but the jack im replacing does not work?? Im not sure how to wire it so this jack will work and my phone in the other room will work also. I need this jack for my wifes heart monitor. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you very much very much

@@nonstart9632 No worries man it's not a mistake if you didn't know. Yes, usually the ethernet cable is Cat 5 or 6 at this point. the phone jack is different though. Rj11 or RJ12.

But it's a 6 pin connector?
@JWolff-md3ij
@JWolff-md3ij Жыл бұрын
It's 6pin(positions)-6contacts, but if you're only using 2 you don't need this. You can use the cheaper, more readily available 6P4C connectors. What's important is that you terminate the wires in the correct placements inside the connectors. Also if it's just one line the standard colors used would be the Blue pair. Any color set will work however as long as you keep the placement consistent on both sides.
