I did this in early June 2021, elevation is 4300ft. cooler at night, might be very cold from November thru February It looks very suitable for mountain bikes!

I sure was expecting to see a lot more of the grandeur of Hole-in-the-Wall. I never got a chance to get into the canyon as we only made a quick stop over headed elsewhere on a geological trip. We were on the opposite side of it looking down from the cliffs into it. The view is utterly amazing from there. I always wanted to get back and get into the canyon to look up the cliffs that surround you. That is the shot I sure wish you had.

It actually wasn't as dramatic as we had thought it would be. The "hole" is the best part of the hike.

Just arrived in the Florida Keys. Waiting to see where you guys are when in FL this coming Jan. I will be driving back to Miramar Beach in the panhandle in the middle of Jan to drop off kayaks and year there. Was going to time my trip when you all where free in maybe in the panhandle or central Florida.

very nice video. any idea what clearance is needed to be considered a high clearance vehicle as one of the road signs warned?
@FromShetoMe4 жыл бұрын
I don't but part of the road from the north includes the "Mojave Trail". We aren't much higher than most sprinter vans. An additional 3.5" in back and 2.5" in front and didn't have any problem. The bigger issue is after it rains. I would definitely avoid that route because of the many washes you have to cross. We may attempt the Mojave Trail this spring with our neighbor who has a 4x4 and could help to extricate us if we got stuck.

Seasons Greetings. We love your adventures. Thank you. I noticed that your seat cushions were tossed onto the floor when driving the rugged road on your way to Hole in the Wall campground. I took your suggestion on covering the back sofa /bed with a Target fitted sheet. In addition, I bought the matching flat sheet and made slip covers to cover all the cushions. This adds additional protection, prevents slipping at night and when traveling. We, too, have a 2017 Ascent. I have used many of your ideas as they improve comfort and practicality when traveling. We especially liked your recommendation of the 1 inch memory foam cushions for sleeping. I made flannel sheet slip covers which help with warmth and slippage. LL Bean has the best flannel sheets that do not bead. We will be retiring in January and will begin our longer adventures. Your fellow Ascent owners from So. Oregon. Michelle & Dave

Glad to hear it. I typically forget to attach the cushions and that was a particularly rough road. Everything ends up on the floor. Next time we'll air down our tires. Will you be attending the PW rally in Las Vegas in May? Should be a good one as it will be their 20th anniversary. It will probably be hot but they do have a large swimming pool.

you mentioned a senior access pass. what does it cover, how much is it and where to you get one?
@FromShetoMe4 жыл бұрын
The pass is available from most National Park and Forest Service locations and can also be purchased on line. The senior pass is a lifetime pass and is available to all US residents over 62. I believe it is now $80. You can also order it on line. Nearly all National Parks are free with the pass (and usually includes those traveling with you in the vehicle). US Forest Service and National Park campgrounds are half off with the pass.

Is hole in the wall the old cowboy hideout?
@FromShetoMe4 жыл бұрын
Our son commented that it seems every locale has a "hole in the wall." It's near the Mojave Trail so it may have been used by cowboys but more likely by native peoples.
@oceandrew4 жыл бұрын
That hole in the wall was a remote pass in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. In the late 19th and the early 20th century the Hole in the Wall Gang and Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang met at the log cabin which is now preserved at the Old Trail Town museum in Cody, Wyoming.
