This is really interesting for the Barbie-like doll world. It might be the closest Metel ever gets to putting out a negative character or villain doll for kids. This interests me because, in the kinds of stories kids do with Barbie, villains are may well be necessary for good storytelling. I came across a competitor brand that produced an interesting purple and black "Evil Queen" doll along with a prince, princess and fairy godmother, but, compared to, say, the action figure world, Barbie doesn't tend to include characters whose role is to bring about conflict in various ways. As a kid, my solution was to put the skimpiest clothing on my least favourite doll and cast her as a sneaky schemer. Clearly, I'd picked up some toxic messages about conspicuous shows of sexuality - aren't kids lovely monsters? Did other people manage to enjoy Barbie world without inventing mean people who introduce serious conflict? I'm sure there are interesting conversations to be had about conflict in these kinds of very girl-geared toys, and their reluctance to give us a world with conflict and unsettling problems and characters to deal with..

Ken was one of the better things about the movie. I was tempted to get a movie Ken but than i remembered i don't like his face mold. I wouldn't spend retail just for these Ken's outfits. Tango does looks so much better out of that ugly outfit he came in. Mattel cannot be to surprised that the BMR1959 line didn't do well all of them had the ugliest outfits.

It saddens me that, although this Ken so clearly loves horses, his legs won't spread wide enough to ride a horse. Poor Ken! He can beach, but he can't surf, and he can mojo in his dojo casa, but he can't leave the pad to ride off into the sunset. No wonder he's an emotional mess!

They did a good job overall. I don’t think he looks like Ryan Gosling and wish they had used a better face sculpt but it could be worse! Lord do we know they can do worse.
