Wait...the Panthera is going to give us over 200 kts. cruise with 4 people on 10 gph feeding an IO-540 260 hp? So about a 55% cruise at 2,200 RPM produces over 200 kts. (230 mph) of true airspeed at altitude, if what I am seeing in Lycoming's specific-fuel-flow data is correct? What should we see at full power / 75% in that case?
@suzukirider90303 жыл бұрын
Probably 200 TAS at 75%. I don't see it doing 200 TAS at 55%. Not with the IO-540

I like your videos and I find them helpful too, the only thing I don't like is when you give speed in mph, while it should be given in knots; it's annoying to do the conversion all the time.

The turboprop Bristell can't be certified as an LSA. The definition of light sport aircraft in FAR 1.1 only allows for a single reciprocating engine for the powerplant. This excludes everything else from jets and turboprops to Wankel rotary engines and even electric powerplants, though the FAA is looking to add electric motors to the LSA definition. The Bristell TurboProp, if it comes to the us as a production aircraft, will need to have a standard airworthiness certificate.

I really just don’t understand why you and so many others overlook velocity in these sorts of lists. Why is that? Good job Mike. I feel badly for Diamond and for Pipistrel, those prices are a positively projected fail. The Dark Aero is the real bang for the buck!
@Maniac7422 жыл бұрын
The Dark Aero is a self built experimental. Most people who buy the kits never finish them. In fact, they don't even get close. Experimental planes also have legal limitations, and good luck getting insurance on one. The Diamond is a certified production aircraft. You can do it all with the Diamond. It's certified for known icing when properly equipped, and you can charter it or run it commercially. That's on top of burning jet fuel while the Dark Aero and the Pipistrel use AvGas. The Pipistrel is on its way to certification, but is still a long ways off.
@j.muckafignotti42262 жыл бұрын

Now that Uber is a thing people should just have private planes for all their travel If you do the math on some of the stats he lists in the video these things are getting like 23 miles to the gallon but they go as the crow flies.. and three times faster than your car. So if you can get places in a third of the time with the equivalent gas miles your car gets..... I remember doing the math on some of the pipestral planes and they were getting like 35 to the gallon because of their more efficient glide. Although not as fast as these planes. But 35 mi to the gallon and as the crow flies and at least twice as fast as your car would get you there.. it's kind of getting to the point where we should just travel by air LOL

I think the best way to get PPL is to buy small airplane . what do you think the best choice with less than 80,000 USD ?
@mauriceevans65463 жыл бұрын
I would recommend that the fastest way to get flying would be to get light sport first. Once you get sport, the hours carry over for PPL. You can fly all over the country and knock out the remaining requirements for PPL. You take a flight to Florida, that's your long cross country for PPL. While others are still waiting for their instructors schedule, you will be out flying and enjoying aviation and still working toward the PPL.

The Panthera being experimental means you can use an automotive engine. A 1.9 TDI would burn 5 gph whereas it's gas counterpart burns 10 gph. If you fly internationally? It means your fuel costs will be significantly lower while giving you almost double the range.
@suzukirider90303 жыл бұрын
Panthera vs DA-50 ? No way the Sling-4 highwing will do 145 TAS with a 141hp engine. Not even the tailwheel version. Sling is great, but they basically lie about their cruisings speeds. I've done most training in a Sling-2. It does NOT cruise at their boasted 120 TAS. 105 TAS at best. Even the DA-40 with the more aerodynamic low-wing gets 145 TAS with a 168 or 180hp engine, and riverless body and wings. The high-wing Sling will cruise at like 120 TAS. Also, I don't get LSAs in the $300k+ category. If you've that kind of money, why can't you just get a PPL and get rid of A LOT of restrictions?

@speedomars3 жыл бұрын
The Panthera is a non starter...it is STILL not certified and as a retractable will not be able to compete against its main competition, the Cirrus SR22 (not the 22T which is faster and flys further). Slings are good products, but are kit planes. The DA50 RG is out now...it is a nice single engine plane but WAY too expensive at $1.15m for a plane that is set to compete against the Cirrus SR22T, burning Jet-A but has no chute and is a retractable also making it uninsurable. The Bristell TURBO, not TURBOPROP (dude you need to learn the terms...a turboprop is a TURBINE, JET-PROP plane). The 915is FADEC controlled, fuel-injected turbo Rotax engine in the Bristell is nice, and it can be found in a dozen other planes. Including the VANS S-21 for example.
@suzukirider90303 жыл бұрын
Why are you saying as if RG is a drawback? The panthera is half the cost of the SR-22T and boasts a higher speed (while is likely exaggerated, but I fully expect 180 TAS cruise from the Panthera). The Panthera is basically a 4-seat DA-50 but, hopefully, for half the price. And the Bristell Turboprop is exactly that - a Turboprop, with a turbine as the powerplant. NOT a turbocharged piston engine. Thought it'd be obvious by the look of the engine without the cowlings ;-)
@speedomars2 жыл бұрын
@@suzukirider9030 Do you own an aircraft? Do you pay aviation insurance on one? I bet not. Otherwise you would understand the point. Also, the current fully loaded price of an SR22T is $980k. The fully loaded Panthera (which is STILL not being produced under certification) is $680k. The Panthera has no de-icing btw...the SR22T does have it. The Panther has 55 gallon tank, the SR22T 92 gallons. The Panthera cruises at 194kts, the SR22T 200kts.
@suzukirider90302 жыл бұрын
@@speedomars No, I'm a renter... Aviation insurance for RG goes way up? Well, a bummer... but that only reinforces my belief that lawyers are a main drawback of avaition, not having RG :-| The SR22T really cruises at 200 TAS? At what altitude?
