I’ve been Utopia fan since the beginning, TR’s Utopia with Kevin Ellman on skins. I was an aspiring drummer once. Saw Utopia 13 times from coast to coast. 👍 Willie is awesome.

Love Tod! One of the most influential people in music. Saw Utopia twice and Tod solo once. Never disappointed. Loved seeing the pyramid set in the old Cleveland stadium! The good old days when you could see a show for $10-$12 and see 3-5 bands. The old world series of rock concerts!

I saw this tour in the summer of 81 in Tulsa,it was advertised in the paper as a 3-hour show and it was. It was the best concert I've ever seen. What a full sound you can have with a both handed keyboard player and four voices.

Pity Todd (with or without Utopia) was seen as a "regional act" and otherwise underpromoted by Bearsville. But if you lived anywhere from Jersey to Illinois, he was a monster. Bob Seger suffered pretty much the same fate until Live Bullet took off in El Lay in '75. (How many bands have I seen that were plain dynamite live...? Hell, even Van Halen went unnoticed for years.)

Listen to Todd's interviews and I am afraid has lost touch with the emotion he drew out in people, way back - he thinks of his own masterpieces as formulaic - but I bet Jerome Kern would have said the same thing Todd doesn't even mention his own high-minded lyrics, I suppose because his reading has never been for a college degree - nevertheless he arrived at Marrlowe,, Bacon & John Donne, recreationally.. Just heard Todd address love & metaphysics, using poetical conceit, with Metropole Orchestra 2012. All in the opening 2 tunes.

I'm not sure. In an interview he did in February of 1981 he said He'd probably still be using the Fender Mustang if it wouldn't have been stolen. Perhaps that was the only Humbucker equipped guitar he had as a backup at that time.
