Sadly i missed that one and it was just fifteen miles down the road. My son died five days before it, i lost my job, then my car was stolen shortly after and my partner had a brain haemmorhage. I drowned my grief in amphetamines etc for a few years after that. Before then, i'd been all over UK to see Cardiacs and the first Charabangalang in Holland. Marquee on Wardour Street in 1984 was my first Cardiacs gig. I did eventually start going to gigs again, but nothing beat the gigs of the 1980s and 90s. I must have seen them live more than a hundred times in total and I met Tim several times. Cardiacs are nearly always playing in my head.

Then about ten years before that gig, i went to that venue to see Balaam and the Angel and to meet a pen friend for the first time. I'd found her rail pass in Northampton. Due to mutual shyness, it wasn't a good meeting, but i gave her a lift home after the gig. However, we never got to her house. She was confused about directions and kept telling me the wrong way hence it appeared i was swerving over the road. I got pulled by police, breathalysed and was positive on the road. I was held at the station for a while, but on their big machine i was negative. I think the girl must have walked the rest of the way home. I never had any contact with her again. Nothing whatsoever to do with Cardiacs, but i just had to go over that old memory.

So sorry to hear this. I hope you're doing well these days. No father should ever have to endure such pain. I hope your partner is also okay. The upcoming gig in May might be just the thing you need. I'll be there 🙂

@@anormalsizedmanandanapartm1876 Thanks for your kind words. Not sure why i risked bringing everyone down with my depressing comment. It just brought back the menories, good and bad. Since those unfortunate incidents in the 1990s, partner was never quite the same, but did recover somewhat. Learnt to walk and talk again. As for May, i most likely wont make the trip over to the UK as i have to visit in June for my daughter's wedding. But who knows what will change between now and then. I might see you there yet.

Absolutely and magnificently brilliant. For those who will say they are sad that Cardiacs were not more widely acclaimed, keep in mind that art like this is so unique it frightens most people.

Just like IQ and EQ, I think there is a "musical quotient" that can describe an individual's ability to process and appreciate varying levels of complexity in music. Beyond that, there's still musical taste.
@musicman9901 Жыл бұрын
@@gimmedataids Ah, someone who appreciates Cardiacs and Melvins. I'm not alone after all! I wish people appreciated creative music more; its supposed to be part of the arts and art isn't supposed to be predictable or easy to digest. The more the variety in music and art the better. We need more Cardiacs, Melvins, Zappas etc in the world.

Incredible. I played in a band in the late 80s/ early 90's. My band mates had the musical maturity (we were in our late teens) to love this band. I've never really listened to them until seeing this video. Ha ha now I absolutely love it!

It's not often a mere pondie finds the beloved Cardiacs sitting in their local pub, but that happened to me on that day. Totally surreal :) (They had their pre-gig beer in the The Cricketers in Oldbrook, which was just across a cricket pitch from my flat) Thanks very much for sharing this video.
