In your tests do you think you can get similar results using a cat5e?

Without testing it firsthand, I cannot say how much of a difference using CAT5e would make. I am going to assume the CAT6 cable I used would perform better than CAT5e because (please correct me if I am wrong): 1) My CAT6 is 23 gauge and most CAT5e is 24. 2) My CAT6 is 550MHz and most CAT5 is 100MHz. 3) CAT6 is less susceptible to crosstalk than CAT5e. After playing with the switch some more and testing long cables, I noticed that the Network Interface Card on my computer also played a role. The USB Ethernet port I used in my testing (amzn.to/38KTwO0) performed a little better than the NIC on my PC. The cameras I tested with seemed pretty consistent however. It almost seemed like the USB Ethernet connector could handle the signals from the switch better as they became weaker with cable length... so there are other factors outside the Ethernet cable itself which could impact latency, speed and distance. Hope this helps.

I'm not 100% sure, but the 2 ports support gigabit speeds (the other ports are only 100) and have visibility into the 8 main ports when isolation is on. I have mine connected to another switch using the uplink port. Not sure if that helps.

Question. I have one of my POE cameras connected to a Moker switch. The rest are connected to my NVR. When viewing live footage directly from my NVR or from my camera app, that one camera is really choppy. If I watch that switched camera from its manufacture’s own app, the feed is smooth. I’ve played with settings without success in getting rid of the choppiness. Do you have any idea what can be causing this? The Ethernet wire from the camera to the switch is not more than 20 feet.

Awesome question! The specs for YuanLey’s 8-port, 2-uplink, 1-SFP PoE+ 120w (amzn.to/2PPMgb5) seem to be exactly the same as this MokerLink switch. Without testing this YuanLey model first hand and only testing one of its sister models, I can’t provide a preference with a strong backing. But… if I were to compare the 2 I have tested, the MokerLink brand was able to reach a further distance in a comparable mode. Other than that, I can't think of any differences.

I love your videos but I am confused about the port speed needed. I want to add 6 cameras for my home security set up connected to a Synology disk station that I already own and use for backups and entertainment. Do I only need 10/100Mbps ports for the cameras vs. gigabit Poe ports?

Yes, you only need a 10/100 port per camera. I used a NAS once to record footage and for some reason my write speed to the NAS was a bottle neck and I often lost footage. Not sure about Synology's performance, just want to make sure you checked its bandwidth and if others are using this technology without issues.

There are no holes in the bottom for wall mounting but the network ears can be installed pointing up or downwards allowing for a wall install, or even flush in the top or bottom of a shelf.

Hi. I am finding my UniFi AP's are seeing each other as LLDP neighbors, due to which I are facing an issue with the topology. Basically they are wifi meshing even although each access point is hard wired off this switch. Is there any way this can be resolved?

Good evening, I wanted to bury one last thing: if I connect all the cameras to the swithc poe (connected to the enthernet cable) and the swithc I connect it to the video recorder nvr, the nvr is already connected to the wifi network or you need to connect another cable enthernet that goes from modem to nvr? Hello. No need for an additional cable from the modem to the NVR. If you NVR is already on your home network, you should be able to access the cameras through the NVR's app and user interface. Hope this helps.

In another comment you said your NVR is on your WiFi network. Isn't your WiFi network you home network? I am not sure what your goal is... remote access maybe? Send me an email with your current system layout (a rough drawing works) and let me know if you are trying to access the cameras through the NVR or as stand alone devices and which interface you intend on using (Web UI or NVR via web or via monitor). It's not common to use a PoE switch to connect cameras to an NVR, unless you have specific network requirements. The NVR's camera ports will provide power to the cameras. If you need to use a PoE switch however, you can connect the switch to a camera channel port and the NVR will find all the cameras on the PoE switch. The issue here is bandwidth as the camera channel port is only 10/100 and you might have dropped frames and lag. You could also setup the PoE switch (with cameras attached) on your home network and also connect the NVR to the network (using the NVR's gigabit LAN port). The only restriction here is a lot of network traffic but if you have a gigabit setup, it won't be an issue. What is this switch like when you put the PTZ on cruise?

Good question. Sending PTZ commands and receiving footage with the PTZ 802.3at camera over long distances were perfect. Once the image quality was compromised by the cable length, I was no longer able to send commands. Surprisingly, the camera stayed power up in excess of the maximum distances I showed in this video. I connected 2 1000ft CAT6 cables together and the PTZ started up and spun around and did its initialization at 2000ft. I just couldn’t communicate with it at that distance.

Would you still recommend this PoE switch? I'm planning for 6-8x Reolink PoE cameras (have yet to decide between the 500 and 800 series). The Unifi switches seem to be the most common when searching for my answer on Reddit and the like, but at 5x to 10x the price of this unit :(

Good question. I like this switch if you are on a budget. I do prefer the big names however, like Unifi, Netgear, TP-Link, D-Link, and Trendnet. Not sure why, just a personal thing.

Yes, if the connection flow is from your modem/router to the switch then to the NVR's LAN port. If that's the case, the cameras will be on the router's network and you'll have to add the cameras to the NVR's configuration as LAN cameras (like I do here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIDSdKpjnr-Zg7c). I have to ask this question. I'm getting ready to setup a Blue Iris Server and I have 2 Hikvision Ip cameras model Hnc328TD, HNC322MB and WiFi attached to a Hikvision NVR. I tried using a netgear GS208 and a Linksys LGS108 and the camera would no show up. I just watched another KZbin video that said the POE for Hikvision Camera's was 48volts. I know you have Hikvision Camera's which POE 8 port Switch would you recommend??? Cost Effective, Please Thanks Joe

I have a few question on your setup. Are you sure the cameras HNC328TD and HNC322MB are made by Hikvision and have Hikvision firmware? I am not familiar with this naming convention. Are you connecting the cameras directly to the 2 non-PoE switches you listed? Just curious to where they fit into your network. You mentioned the cameras would not show up; where are you referring to: on the NVR or in BI? What camera settings did you use in the recording device? Were the cameras already initialized outside of the NVR? If you are using a Hikvision NVR, what is the purpose of using BI?

@@HomeTechDIY Thanks for the reply. The cameras came from Nelly's Security. They are supposed to be Hikvision and the NVR is Too. The NVR Model number is NR32P4-4B. The Camera setup in the NVR is Camera Model No HNC328-TD, 1 D1 ,Adding method is Plug-and Play ,IP 192.168.254.6 ,Protocol IPCAM ,Management Port 8000, Channel Port 1, Transfer Protocol Auto. The camera's were installed p-n-p to the NVR directly. I'm connected to a Spectrum Cable Company I have a Cable Modem, Connected to a Linksys Router connected to Netgear Model No GS208 Switch and my Windows 10 64 Desktop Tower. I wanted to see If my cameras IP would show up. I disconnected Camera 1 from the NVR the camera is a Outside Dome, I connected first to the Netgear and I check the software "Advanced IP Scanner" and "SADP Tool" to see if the camera IP would show up and nothing came up on either program. I did the same thing with the Linksys LGS108 Splitter. The camera IP still did not show up. I don't have Blue Iris yet. After watching so many of you video's on Blue Iris I want to use it instead of my NVR. Just because I had lots of problems connecting WIFI Camera's and an Video Door bell. The playback is definitely better and easier on Blue Iris than on the Hikvision NVR. So are the Adjustment's and controls'. Finally, what cost effective POE Switch do you recommend. I trying to build this on the cheap. FYI: CPU Amd Ryzen 3 3200G, MB GIGABYTE B450M DS3H V2 Micro ATX Motherboard, Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000, Western Digital Blue SN550 250 GB M.2-2280 NVME , Seagate Skyhawk 2TB, EVGA BQ 500 W 80+ Bronze ATX Power Supply, and Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L Micro-ATX.
