In this tutorial, you will see how I create a defined, voluminous, beautiful bantu knot-out on my baby sister's hair. If you have type 3 hair, you know figuring out the right process and products for this style can be somewhat of a challenge (it surely was for me the first few times I tried it, lol).
The beauty of this style is that it works on all hair types, whether you are natural, relaxed or transitioning, this is a style you can make your own. I hope this tutorial helps you get great results!
Products and Tools:
Agadir Daily Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
Beautiful Textures Curl Definer Mousse
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect 7
Agadir Oil Spray Treatment
Agadir Hair Treatment Oil
ORS Smooth-N-Hold Pudding
Ion Anti-Frizz Ionic Hair Dryer
Conair Pro-Style Bonnet Dryer
Paddle Brush
Brush Strokes Soft Boar Bristle Brush
Detangling/Shower comb
Rattail Comb
Bob pins
Total Style Time:
Total prep time for shampooing, deep conditioning, blow-out and bantu knot installation was about two and a half hours. Knots were set overnight, then separated and fluffed into style the next day (20 minutes).
Keep and Care:
To preserve this style, you can pineapple your hair or re-knot the sections.

Thanks for the post.... Was wondering if I could do a bantu knot-out on my hair. Your sister's hair is exactly like mine. So happy to see such beautiful results. I think my hesitation was about how the roots would look doing it wet, but now I see its best to do it dry. I have to get rid of this idea in my head that all "sets" have to be done on wet/damp hair in order to set. This change is encouraging, as it typically takes my hair 8hrs+ to air dry a set. Thank you ladies. SO EXCITED TO TRY!!!

Beautiful. I think I'll try this on my transitioning hair. Not sure if I'm a 3C texture, but it'll give my hair a break from flat ironing and heat. Thanks for the tips.

Finally a good Type 3 video. I usually don't go by the typing system but different textures are styled differently. All i can get at this point is a great wash and go and flat iron. All that twist out braid out bantu knot stuff just doesn't work for me (yet). I will have to study this video before I try it again. But you give me hope lol.

I haven't had a bantu knot since the 90s lol. But back then you wouldn't unravel them, you would just wear it as so lol. I''m a fan of the wavy look and it's a wonderful alternative from frying your hair with a curling wand lol. Hope all goes well with this try-out, and thank you for the tutorial. Very pretty :)

Thank you soo much for this video, I have 3c hair and could not get a great bantu knot out now with this information I am going to try it out. I have a question Mo, what products should a person with 3c hair use to maintain a two strand twist, I love the style but mine does not stay in more then a week 5 days the most, do you have any idea or products I should use to make my style last for more then a week? again thank you for the video I just subscribed and I love your videos

Blow drying wet hair stresses and pulls the hair too much. Sitting under the hooded dryer allows the hair to dry without manipulation so hair isn't pulled out. You should never blow dry your hair from wet to dry. Always air dry or sit under a hooded dryer then blow out.

myles dixon If your hair will dry under the dryer, then that's ok. I just say set overnight because most people's hair won't dry in a reasonable amount of time, so overnight setting ensure it does.

They are used to classify curl patterns: Type 2: Wavy - Type 3: Curly - Type 4: Coily. There are also sub-categories (For example, I'm a 3A/B. I think the girl in the video might be a 3B/C).

Why are products with alcohol such a big deal to naturals? Does it steal mositure? I mean it's not such a big deal in some of te videos I've seen from Mo, because I see the products like wrap lotion and mix chicks conditioner...but I was just wondering what the big no no was!
@MoKnowsHair

Some types of alcohol are actually conditioning to the hair, and others are not...I think that little bit of info is not as widespread as it should be...I'll probably write a post on it on my blog at some point.
