What’s a fire rock? Need more vids!!! Have withdrawals here in the north 🇨🇦 counting down the months to get back in the water!!! Cheers!
@mokpot6 жыл бұрын
Hi Allison, it is always good to hear from you! A fire rock is a rock used by Native Americans to start friction fires with. They have a small hole worn into them by the repeated spinning of a stick to start the fire. If you web search you should see many examples. I have not been in the water much this winter either : ( It is cold here also but that is not usually an excuse, I have been busy doing other things and, honestly a little lazy at times... Getting certified! COOL... see you in the water! A fire rock is what the Native Americans used to start fires on... they would use sticks to create friction fires the feed kindling and dry grass to feed it into a fire. Any tips on getting started with river treasure hunting
@mokpot5 жыл бұрын
Tips... I will assume you mean hunting like I do, on SCUBA. I will start with warnings. Be a strong swimmer, DO NOT enter the water if you are not a strong swimmer. Currents can get you in trouble very quickly and kill you by pinning you against rock or trees. Be capable of Self Rescue, you can not rely on a buddy in the water with you or on shore to "save" you. If you are in a bad situation they will be also if they come to your aid, and will likely share your fate. DO NOT enter the water if you are not 100% familiar with your equipment, practice finding and using every piece of your gear and every tool you carry, repeatedly, until you can do it without struggle. Configure your gear where you can reach it without needing to unclip it, or retrieve it with any struggle. Example: have your regulator on a necklace so it will always be just under your chin.Have exit plans: ask yourself, "what if", if this happens what will I do? What if I get swept past this point? Where will I exit? Where will I attempt to swim to? What if I miss that point? What if I have an equipment failure? Think about everything that CAN go wrong, and every piece of equipment that can fail, because it most likely WILL go wrong. Choose your dive sites carefully, not every place is able to be dived. Be ready and willing to call off every dive at any time, even before you enter the water. Listen to that inner voice that is telling you "I should not do this". Take a Rescue Diver course at your local dive shop. Get at least 100 dives in safer waters, do this within a 2 year period. This is to familiarize yourself with your equipment. Have at twice that many dives logged, there is no substitution for experience. Dive only in currents you can swim against and at least be able maintain your position in the water. Be healthy, have very good cardio ability (you will need it) do not be overweight.This is a dangerous activity. Swimming or diving in currents can kill you, just look at how many people die each year in river activities. Watching my videos or other KZbinrs who dive in rivers either on scuba or free diving (example: POLISHMAFIA928) may give you a false impression that it is a simple, easy, activity. It is not. If I leave you feeling uneasy about this, good, that was my goal. If you feel challenged and still want to give it a try, then do so with caution. Explore the easiest of sites to gain experience and comfort first. The good news is places where most people swim are often in these areas, and are where you will have lots of stuff to find. Finally, dive with an experienced river diver, they have lots of tips and experience to share.

Spit is my go to... baby shampoo also works well. Do not rinse after application.

The neighbor kid says they take several golf balls with them when rafting the American, in case somebody bothers them, they throw the golf balls at them!!! Hmmmm, that's one answer.

Don't you pick up the garbage bottles while you are down there and help keep waterways clean?
