Mokume gane in polymer clay tutorial - part 4 of the miniseries.
In this tutorial I am showing you not only how you can use skinner blends when making mokume gane, but actually two variants fairly controlled mokume gane using skinner blends with spectacular effects.
Enjoy and happy claying!
I buy my Premo, Fimo and Pardo clays and many other supplies from PolyClay Play.

I enjoy watching your tutorials. If you wipe your blade with a baby wipe after each cut , the blade want stick.
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't use baby wipes because of the lint, but I wipe the blade with Armor All which is the best thing for this. It's my hands, I'm just in a very bad flare right now. On the 18 I go for more shots in the wrist. Hopefully it will get better, last time it did.

The Facebook page says it's broken. I'm sad. I'll try to find you on another site you listed but I'll ask the question here anyway. After you've made the skinner blends, before you start stacking them.. what do you roll the skinner slabs on? My pasta machine is thickest on #1. So, how thin do you make them? Other mokume ganes I've made, I rolled them quite thin before stacking. This one is different so I don't know. I'm crying! LOL thank you. Your tutorials are fantastic.
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
You need to empty your browser's cache. I changed the link about 4-5 months ago and your browser still sees the old link. It ends with "kalyanadesigntutorials" now. I roll on the thinnest. That is why I never say numbers, just thinnest or thickest, as pasta machines are different. Thank you, I'm glad you find them useful!

Gorgeous. The problem I have with mokume gane is I often mess it up when I slice it. Do you recommend any particular brand of blade? Also, I have read the tissue blades work better than the stiffer kind, do you agree?
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I need to update the video description. There is a blade I found on Amazon, named Jili (it's at the end of the list in the Blades section of my Amazon Influencer Store) but it takes for ever to get it, or if you order stuff at Polyclayplay, Trish managed to find it, and she has it for under $5 in a set with a 8" blade for mokume gane/mica shift and a 4" blade for cutting thin cane slices polyclayplay.com/8-flexible-clay-blade-in-storage-case-plus-bonus-blade/?aff=2

Impressive. I'm looking into a new project that uses polymer clays. Have you tried using a cheese slicer with a thin wire to make your slices?
@KalyanaDesignTutorials
@KalyanaDesignTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
That wouldn't work. The wire is not thin enough and the polymer clay has a different resistance. I had old bad blades, that's all.
