Good post. Beautiful sounds and dancers. What I love most is that when I lived in Thailand, this kind of wonderful street celebration was not even that big of a deal. I would sometimes wake up to go shopping, etc and there would be a parade going down my street. In America, I think that would get old very quick, but I loved it all there.

Get thee butt to Thailand. I have been a dozen times. You won't regret it. By hook or by crook find a way to get 30 days off from work, so you can take advantage of the 30 day free visa exempt upon arrival.

Morlum and its various spellings means professional singer and could be broken down directly to Mor (doctor) and lum (to sing) This is the Isaan traditional singing style about hardship, romance and moreso broken hearts in Isaan with the need to go and work a away from home. Morlum Sing is the same but taken up a notch and faster beat. More drums, deep bass and the fundamental Phin guitar that experts say tune to suit yourself. The Khen is the other fundamental instrument and is the long cane mouth organ. I used to think 'sing' was translated as something/similar/likewise but it actually means 'fast' which translates the whole morlum sing as uptempo traditional Isaan song and music (rarely song and always this type of music).

Rada - I m 1/2 Thai & 1/2 Hmong. I have a few Cambodian friends who speak Thai fluently. How come Thai language is so easy for Cambodian people to learn, so what's historical relationship between Thai & Cambodian. I heard my dad said, they were the same native origin before 5k BC in China.

Territory of Isan was originally controlled by the kings of Laos before 1100AD. This territory'd fallen to Thailand after the king Phraya Xysethathirat.

western drums and guitar ruin the genuine thai music.
@HelmetAndCrayon11 жыл бұрын
I tend to disagree. I was in a couple of parades with music a bit more upbeat than this with 5 drummers and electric guitars which transported me. Then I had to sit through 4 hours of "traditional" Thai music with 1 instrument and a man and women half talking, half singing. The "band" is famous but I wish I had a pack of sleeping tablets to make it end quicker.
