I am replacing moldy ceiling drywall in a sun room under a spray foamed balcony. Would you use that primer on both sides of new drywall (after leak fix and remediation)? I plan to put a few round soffit vents in the new ceiling for ventilation flow in that joist ceiling space, using a dehumidifier. Learned a lesson about house plants and high humidity.

Bleach doesn’t actually kill mold at its roots. It will remove the black stains visible to the eye, but it won’t kill it and, thus, you’ll risk having it grow back. Good old regular white vinegar will, however, kill mold; but, however, it won’t remove the black mold stain. After you kill it with vinegar you can scrub away the black stain with bleach. Or, it the mold isn’t thick, you can simply use that paint; it is supposed to kill and cover most molds.

Vinegar is effective for 80% kill rate. You want something with a little kick like Benefect Decon 30. That said, sheetrock needs to be removed when it grows mold. And Bleach with a surfactant and higher sodium hypochlorite content eats it all away, but should be followed up with something like Benefect or shockwave.

@@jasongrappone345 Bleach is not effective on porous surfaces; whereas vinegar is effective on both porous and non-porous because it gets down into the mold roots and destroys them.

Great video, I live in western NY near Buffalo. I have a ranch home, hip roof. My ceilings in every room, except the bathroom, has dark spots near the walls where I believe the ceiling joists are. I have 12 inches of insulation and baffles for air flow from the soffit to attic. I can't tell if the dark spots are from mold or from the candles my wife burns. Next time I paint I'll try Zinsser. Thanks again for the video.

Great tips. Question: Do you need to paint a top coat on top of the primer if the application is inside the walls after mold remediation?

At first thought you wouldn't think so. But I remember Chris saying g if you don't topcoat within 72 hrs it can greatly reduce the mold inhibitor qualities of the actual media so if I had to guess I would say yes to a topcoat even if is inside the wall. Use a cheap flat or some old or bulk ceiling pai t laying around.

People have mold in their bathrooms because they don't run the fan long enough. After their shower they dry off and shut the fan off, bad idea keep it running for 20 minutes or buy a fan with a timer or humidity sensor.

Any time dealing with mold, First get a good mask, not Dr. Facial mask😂. Mask with filters. Then follow this man's instructions. I clean it using Cleaning vinegar, rinse, let dry, then prime with the suggested product. Zinsser is a excellent product.

Vinegar, Vinegar and backings soda, 3% peroxide, or borax , mixed with the proper water ratio can kill mold and spores and are not toxic as well as cheap. Then seal wuth the mold killing primer Bleach does not kill mold spores

That does not work on porous materials. Never clean a high porous material like drywall and particle board. You must remove the material. This is noted by IICRC.

Yeah that exhaust is completely blocked ain't no way its working effectively. They either remodeled the bathroom and forgot or didn't care for the fan or it was a complete oversight from the builder. I think it was the first choice.
