Hi Bev, I have a regular Mollenhauer denner in palisander and it is much the same colour. It was a replacement since the first one I purchased cracked in the head joint about 3 months after I purchased it. I was surprised how much lighter it was in colour than the first one. It does sound pretty to my ears although I am a beginner abeit a rather old one having played clarinet and flute at school than tenor horn in my local brass band for 20 years. I bought and sold a mollenhauer modern in pearwood mainly because it took a lot of air and I struggled with the half-open holes of the high register. Let me know what you think about this. I have just purchased a mollenhauer Denner Edition in satinwood from Thomann and am waiting for it to arrive. Think I might try a soprano as well although I am still trying to decide which version to get as I live in a remote region and am unable to try before I buy. I hope you enjoy this recorder more once you have had a chance to blow it in.

I ended up sending the Modern recorder back for a refund. Instead, I ordered a Moeck Stanesby alto from Thomann but had to send that back, too, as it was faulty! So instead, I'm looking at getting a handmade Stanesby alto from Tim Cranmore as well as a Bernolin resin recorder - I sold some of the recorders I don't play much to go towards the cost!! I sold my Moeck Palisander at the weekend and am selling my Moeck Olivewood, also sold the Mollenhauer Pearwood. The good thing about buying from Thomann is that you can return for a full refund - and they pay return postage. It takes a while for this to go through, but at least it's available if you end up with a recorder you're not happy with.
