When my mother got older she would say the same things and when I asked her about it she said, "At my age I only have Time for the Truth!"

I love the fact that someone actually found the segment that I got to ask the Fruitcake Lady a question. Of course, it was a question given me by the Tonight Show writers but it was still fun to have my 15 seconds of fame. Cheers.

@Sherri Osinga - Marie Rudisill WAS Truman Capote's aunt. Her sister gave birth to him in New Orleans. When he was two years old, her sister divorced his father and moved to New York City. He was sent to live with Marie and to be raised "by family" in their home town of Monroeville, Alabama. He lived there to about age 12 and moved to NYC to live with his mother upon her remarriage. He has stated those years were good and happy years for him. There, he became friends with Harper Lee, author of "To Kill A Mockingird." They played together as children and remained friends. I am Southern and know, probably, 1000 Southern women like her. I have thought about it a lot and I decided these things: I am just becoming a Baby Fruitcake Lady, though several decades younger than she. I am just getting started. The pressure here for so many women my age was to be a high achiever AND to be nice ALL THE TIME. Behave, be polite, NEVER really speak your mind and ALWAYS "Be Very Nice," even if you are talking to Charles Manson. It is expected of you, even if you are talking to the biggest jackass in the history of mankind - BEHAVE! After a career of three decades, taking me around the World, usually being the only woman in the room AND telling a bunch of men, here or in a foreign nation, "what they NEED to do," it is possible to become a Fruitcake Lady. I loved my work, but got much flack for my accent and for my gender .... at first .... then, things always smoothed out. There comes a time when you no longer care, have had it and can no longer hear your mother's voice saying, "Be nice!" Anywhere we live, as we age, we care less and less what people think. For some of US, a time comes when we have had it. We begin to rebel and revolt later in life. I now SOMETIMES find myself sayng things that I am insane for saying, like threatening to "whup yo ass" to someone who really deserves it ... with one little problem ... I do not know how to fight. I asked my sister, a mental health counselor, if an adult can have "sudden onset" of Oppositional Defiance Disorder in her early "Senior" years. Marie was an authentic Southern woman in her 90's, based on MANY I have known. I just hope I can reign myself in before I am shot, run over by a car or incarcerated. I might not be as good at it as she .... .... I love that, when really angry, she begins responding only with utterances until words finally come.
