If you compare the two recordings her voice is is a lot smoother and less raw then in the version from the movie. This makes me think that in the film they mixed Rachel McAdams' voice with hers to create an ABBA-like hybrid sound that is a little rougher around the edges. Molly and Rachel actually have similar voices so this would be possible to do. That also explains why Molly is credited under her "My Marianne" middle name in the film rather than under her first and last name. I would love to hear more about where Rachel's voice was used and where Molly's voice was.

The song is solid, the performance was flawless by Molly and the children’s choir, and the visuals overall were stunning. @@victoriabennage2190 Its more than that... she has the very rare ability to emote in her phrasing. This is what separates good singers from great singers. Good singers can have perfect pitch and hit every note, but without the ability to emote, it won't "grab the audience by the feels". Take for example "How Do I Live Without You" recorded by both LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood. Rimes sang in perfect pitch, hit every note. But when compared to Trisha's, it feels bereft of emotion.

Molly Sandén has been famous I Sweden (where she is from) for being a especially strong vocalist, since she was quite young. Extremely talented. She sings in a way that is very popular in a certain type of Swedish pop. Imagine if you had classically trained singers, maybe a bit of musical theatre too, that is pop. But in a lot of ways is quite similar to this song. But I also think Swedish singers have a bit of a free advantage, that Swedish is very suited for singing. Many singers need to work a lot of adjusting their vowel sounds while singing, so they become ones that are more easy to sing. So when speaking and singing the same word, you would need to make different vowel sounds, or you are going to have a very hard time singing. (This is also the reason why even in languages that have a lot of different accents within it. It’s almost always sang the same way, with a few exceptions) But in Swedish this isn’t the case. You can just use the sounds that you are used to using when speaking Swedish and it works great. Most of the Swedish vocal sounds are extremely similar to the sounds that researchers found are the easiest to sing. Where you have a easier time holding a note longer, keep the pitch and without tensing up. And Swedish also is also spoken with a lot of melody compared to most languages. So you use the melody of the sentence to convey what you mean more or less always more then the actual words you use. Norwegian would probably be among the most extreme in the world in its use of melody to convey emotion and intention. English is on the other side of the spectrum, and is spoken extremely monotone, little melody, few pauses or emphasis. And when I speak English because I can’t use melody when speaking, it feels like I lose most of my personality while I’m speaking. It’s to a much higher degree conveyed by what I say then how. Obviously you can still do it in English. But there are a lot less ‘tools’ available. So many Swedish singers also get a little free head start in finding how to convey emotion while singing.

I am once again commenting on this video to express my sheer wonder and love for this song and performance. Molly Sanden, the visuals, the young ladies singing, the Aurora, the instrumentalists, the fireworks; it's all just absolutely stunning in every way. And it still stuns/disappoints me to realize that the Oscars relegated this to a preshow. If Lady Gaga or some mainstream American artist had composed this song, they would have put this performance in the highest viewership segment of the show, replayed it a dozen times, and would probably still be talking about it two years later.

Social values are important and I am not taking away from the winners at all, but this song is also about social values: about the challenges that people face in a globalised world, where some feel that they have to leave their home to pursue a career and they realise that they want to be back home. It speaks to global and regional equality and inclusion, its a call to say that we can't be a society focused just on cosmopolitans. And given the challenges that democracy faces from those that feel ignored beyond these cosmopolitan entities, the message that this song delivers is a strong social message too.
