I am new to cross pick ... the finger picking is what I normally do and this is a neat skill ..

Seems like an awful lot of practice to avoid using fingers.

It's just a different technique to utilize in your playing. I'm a very good fingerstyle guitarist, but I'm learning crosspicking now...another plus for me as a musician.
