I cried listening to this as it reminded me of my best friend. She was so pretty and kind to everyone including me. I regret not ever asking her if she was OK or feeling down because I thought she had everything. She committed suicide a few years ago and I miss her so so much. I still don't know what caused her to commit suicide but many people say she got raped by some guys but didn't tell anyone which breaks my heart and I sincerely hope it isn't true.

I relate to this song, I grew up with my single dad, my mum died when I was little, I am always passive and kind to everyone I came across. I was never pretty but I always managed to try and look my best but I was dying on the inside, when I was about 16 my dad died in a car accident. That when thing started to break, I really needed someone but I covered it up. You never know whats going on in someone despite the strong face. Thank you for this song, it's amazing

*MEANING OF THE SONG* (maybe, this is just a guess.;) the "prom queen" is like a popular girl at school, who seems to have everything, nice clothes, money, big house, looks, boys like her ect. Everyone loves her and wants to be her and thinks she's perfect, but she doesn't love herself. She is wears a lot of make up because she is insecure and wants love. The 'diamonds' (i don't really know about this one) are actually tears, basically she is perfect outside but crying inside. Here's an example, in the line 'turns her tears into diamonds in her crown' kind of means that she hides, takes, her sadness and tries to turn it into something that helps hide how she feels. *CONCLUSION* Everyone else thinks the "prom queen" is perfect and that her life is perfect, but she doesn't think that. She doesn't love herself at all but pretends to be a perfect, pretty girl that everyone likes to distract everyone from the truth.(she's depressed and doesn't love herself)

Superb song. Kudos to Kestner for outstanding songwriting and a powerful, layered performance. The lyrics are are impishly clever, but rather than coming off as trite or flippant, there's a real sense of pathos. The privileged prom queen first evokes the envy of the narrator ("boyfriend pretends not to see her") but in a later verse we glimpse the queen's future in all of its grim banality. There's a sense of sadness, instead of a sneering "how the mighty have fallen" schadenfreude. Kestner treats us to soaring vocals in the refrain--long, mournful tones punctuated by militant percussion that almost seem to presage the queen's final funereal downfall. It's not love that conquers all, it's the inevitable passage of time, and the queen's popularity and charm can do nothing to change that. Listen carefully, and you can hear these tragic truths in rise and fall of Kester's voice. I have little doubt that there's a Grammy in this artist's future.

I love this song so much, it’s probably my favorite at the moment. The lyrics are beautifully written and she sings with so much emotion. This song really makes me think about how much we as a society value external beauty. This “prom queen” is the epitome of beauty and nobody notices or cares how she’s falling apart inside.
