The Wire had so many characters that could be main characters. Every recurring character in Avon's crew, Marlo's crew, Omar's people, the fiends, the Co-Op, the special unit, homicide, Westside, the upper brass, the politicians and developers, the prisoners and guards, the docks and Greeks, even the teachers and newspaper they ALL felt like real humans all part of the same bullshit. D'Angelo and Dukie were the saddest part of the show for me. Also that moment where Carver just can't say anything to Randy and where Bubbles just completely breaks down. So many heartbreaking moments on this show and by the end, nothing has changed. The Wire and The Sopranos will forever be the best depictions of 21st century America. No show will ever capture a living, breathing city like this ever again. They made Baltimore into an incredibly tragic but at times hilarious character, which is such an incredible achievement.
