For making it less shinny you could try sandblasting it. I like how the metal looks when the surface tension makes it bubble above the surface and is super smooth. Of course then it oxidizes.

What about paint with some bleach type liquid to thin out remove paint thrown on? Like how they do clothing to give dark colors that funky look? Then add the sandblasting technique. I don't know if it can be pulled off but in my mind it looks awesome!

I really like how the cast metal mimics the tin foil exactly, it would take a lot of work and polishing to get stainless steel to look like that

Very cool. I liked the 'try and correct as you go' approach as well! As the viewer, it gives me different options for different results, withouts even having to experiment myself. Also makes it less intimidating. It's nice to work with a material, where you can correct 'happy little accidents', if necessary. And the finished table looks *very* high end.

This is awesome! I think steel shot and/or steel wool is also a filler option worth considering, especially if you use some flux to help the tin flow onto it. A steel powder with a quick hit of the torch to melt it into place, followed by a tannic acid (instant coffee or instant tea; oak gall decoction; etc.) etch/oxide conversion might give an interesting finish.

You could also use and oil paint wash to dull down the metal. It has the edit effect of bringing out some of the fine details. Black Magic Craft has some tutorials about this subject.

I was surprised you didn't use the torch to smoothen the metal. For dulling the colour of the metal, cold bluing liquid works on a bunch of different metals. If it reacts with your alloy then you could apply it with a spray bottle. PS: great idea. I love that piece

You could makes some texture stamps out of silicone then use a heat gun to soften the metal and stamp texture into the metal with the silicone stamps. Might be cool to use a bark texture that transitions to smooth texture as you move further away from the table top. A kind of organic to synthetic approach.

Could you play around with patinas used in stained glass and copper work to make it less shiny? I know you can dip hot steel in motor oil to give it a blued look. But, the melting point is so low on the tin/ bismuth I don't know how you could accomplish that.
