Well I for one would love to see you build a Wirehead Basilisk! 😊 thanks very much for featuring it, I’ll be in touch!

I have to say this looks really cool. My inner-DIY voice immediately said to me “Hey, you should get a kit and see if you can hack it to work in Eurorack.”
@wireheadinstrumentsАй бұрын
@@FileTransferProtocol thanks 😊it wouldn't need much hacking - there is provision on the PCB for a eurorack power header, just need a panel, (which might be in my rack as a prototype right now!)

Really enjoying listening to the rain in the background. Very soothing and yet probably very unintentional!!! BTW, If the Basilisk is anything like the Freeaq FM by Wirehead Instruments, it's on my shopping list straightaway, (pre-built version only for me!! 😔).

That SynTesla Low Pass Filter looks like the Avo Multi-Meters I used to use when I was a mainframe engineer ! Brilliant !

I bought Future Music pretty solidly from '93ish to '97 I think - sorry to see it go, still, it was a stalwart of the shelves. It was one of the best ways to pick up on new gear and music, and the sample CDs on the front were always handy. I do agree about magazines. They're nice to leaf through, and it's great to look at old ones and be shocked by prices/specs etc. Looking forward to Synthfest again!

Another great roundup, sir. Thanks for doing it. I can’t help but think of another area in which an actual printed magazine beats online publications: Discovery. I have a number of subscriptions, that come in at different times of the month. I am also (as we all are) really busy in everyday life, and really distracted (and a little overwhelmed?) by everything that is thrown at me. With a website, I have to remember that it’s there, and then make time to go look at it. That doesn’t happen often. On the other hand, a magazine shows up. I walk out to my mailbox to sort through he inevitable bills and junk, a there is a beautifully laid our, glossy cover with a topic I long to read about… and I stop. I take a moment out of my day, sit down, and leaf through the artful images and words stretched across pages of glossy goodness. In that moment, I get an escape to think about what I love. I make visual notes of which articles I want to come back to, and then plan later time to do it. Magazines remind me… they show up and are like “Hey! Music stuff… remember? You are a musician. It’s what you do. It’s what keeps you from being able to pay those bills that came with me (but never mind that for now…) Look! Pretty pictures and thoughtful words! Read me!”. That’s pretty valuable to me. Worth the price on the cover, for sure.

Couldn't agree more about Music Tech but magazines in general... I think that they are pricing themselves out of existence too...8 quid for a mag doesn't cut it for an impulse buy and even at subscription prices hard to justify in these "hard" times. I shall miss Music Tech along with all the other print mags which have gone the way of the Dodo. Another excellent video by the way and I really want a Roland P6 to replace my aging Bastl Granny. Keep up the entertaining work....always look forward to these diatribes..Such Fun ! Thanks Robin.

Sorry to hear about FM. I was a subscriber for well over a decade and before that bought issues from bookstores, when they were still a thing. I still have a number of issues and all the CDs/DVDs that came with them.

Thanks for the coverage on the Extend-o-Matic! Creator here. We're considering a controller tier as well, but when talking about that, people have also mentioned "Yeah, but there's Scaler and Ripchord". I feel like software can do everything but sometimes people like a standalone hardware unit haha! (see projects like Nopia). Question for the comments: what price range would you expect a controller-only version of something like this to be? We're definitely seriously considering it.

There’s two ways of looking at what the early Junos were. Architecturally, they were single oscillator analog polysynths with lush chorus. That’s what the synth nerds love. However, from a functional standpoint they were affordable keyboards for the stage musician. From that perspective, the new Junos are definitely Junos. Something to keep an eye on as it will most likely come to a head in October: Aodyo, who make the Slypho EWI, the Anyma Phi mono synth and the Anyma V plugin synth, are facing insolvency. Roadblocks and delays on their planned flagship keyboard synth and MPE controller mean they need to find an investor to stay afloat. It sounds like if that doesn’t happen in the next few weeks they’ll declare bankruptcy.

Re Future Music mag - I wonder if printed media will follow the same model as books and records - declining almost totally then returning again. Sad to see it go

The Aira Compacts are cute little novelties, but the interface is so much worse than any Volca. Volcas work fine because they're simple. But Roland making you menu dive on a 4-digit segmented display is ridiculous. Especially on a sampler. You can't name anything, you can't see the waveform, and you've gotta menu dive and trim samples with a 4-digit display. The P-6 has its own app to help you manage samples, but that app's never going to be maintained. Roland doesn't fix any of the bugs on the Aira Compacts. Any points it gains for portability it loses for needing the app. If you're going to use an app just use Koala.

I think the MSW 830 could be dolled up and fit well - replace the black fader knobs with color coded small slider caps a la Arp of the Deckard's. Off-white could work with some color sprucing, personal taste I suppose
