The difference between x and y is that x is fire and dragon type and y is fire and flying. Just keep that in mind when you are mega evolving.

You should let Charlie learn Solar Beam. Mega Charizard Y has a 159 base special attack which is much higher than Mega Charizard X’s. Plus, it’s ability, Drought, brings harsh sunlight which allows it to use it in one turn soooo......
