Mom of Bride Accused of Trying to Upstage Her Daughter

The mom of a Louisiana bride is finding herself at the center of a social media firestorm. People online are saying Lori Dewitt upstaged her daughter at her child's wedding. Chloe LeBlanc, who recorded the video, says the bride was with her mother when they went dress shopping and she approved the dress. "I definitely think there were a lot of people who were a tad bit jealous of how gorgeous she was," LeBlanc says.

My mom wore a white dress to my wedding. My mom was absolutely stunning. Yet, being a fuller figure woman, she had low self-esteem and never felt comfortable or pretty. When we went dress shopping, she found an amazing dress to try on. However, the sample was white. When my mom walked out in this dress, she was glowing and absolutely beautiful. I had never seen her smile so big or twirl around the way she did that moment. I cried harder seeing her in that dress then I think she did seeing me in mine. lol. When we were told they didn’t have any other colors available in her size she immediately went to look for another dress. I forced her to wear that dress. Tragically my parents and brother lost their lives not long after. Words cannot express how grateful I am that I didn’t let silly traditions or strangers opinions affect my decision. Nothing makes me happier than watching the video or looking at them pictures and seeing how beautiful and confident she looked. We need to keep our opinions to ourselves and allow others to be happy. Life is hard enough on its own, we don’t need to make big deals out of nonexistent problems. This wedding was for their family. If their family was happy, why on earth would anybody else have a problem?

As an Asian, I agree. I find it mind boggling how in the US, it would be an unforgivable sin if another woman wears white on someone else's wedding. Coz here in Asia, or maybe just in my part of Asia, Philippines, it is automatic that the center of attention is the bride, it's impossible to upstage the bride and groom. I've seen some weddings where the mothers of both the bride and groom sometimes were wearing whites and it's no big deal. 100%NOT an American thing. This is actually considered very rude and shameful of her. It's poor etiquette which is why it made the news. The only reason why so many agree in the comments is bc they have a herd mentality- also very sad!

The commentator made it about jealousy but the issue is not her beauty but rather the dress she chose. Completely inappropriate for an American wedding. She had her cleavage showing, almost her entire back showing, and she wore a train and was holding a bouquet. Nothing wrong with her dress but definitely a problem with her wearing it at a wedding event. Especially her daughter's wedding

Nobody said they can't both be beautiful. Beauty is not the issue here. It's the lack of respect for the bride and poor etiquette to choose such a showy dress. That has always been a hard rule- never outshine the bride with your clothes- not your face lol

That pattern always looks like 1950's curtains to me. Flowery definitely isnt in vogue. But Mom has a great figure: & if the bride was ok with it ....

The old bird was definitely trying hard, complete with plunging neckline and loud taffeta gown with a train and even holding a bouquet 😂 On any other day sure, whatever, but on her daughter's special day it's quite selfish and poor taste.
