I lost someone after 20 years together due to “ unaliveing” himself. My Friends and Family were crucial in helping me recover from the loss. When I was going through his things while Preparing our Home for Rental I found a cards dated during our time together referring to very intimate things from a Woman he claimed was only A friend. I can honestly say it felt like a punch in the gut but after that next shock wore off i barely felt anything for him again.

I did that for my father when my mom died of cancer when I was 14 and I regret it. there should’ve been adults to listen to him, he told me such sad and awful things about how he really feels about my mom and his kids and life in general. I know it’s how he really feels too, so it still hurts. I have no parents because of loss & grief.

Every " victim " in a relationship always minimize their input in the relationship, the fact it took you 42years to know that someone close to you is a creep is troubling. I think 'very very lucky' is a ridiculous thing to say. Yes - I get that it's fortunate that she didn't marry him, but she's had an exceptional amount of trauma in her life, especially for someone so young. This woman is strong, but she will be dealing with mental health issues for the rest of her life. Good on her for choosing happiness. 💜

Let me offer some insight from a man's perspective. I would bet my house on the fact that he wanted to marry her and only her... However, he ALSO wanted sexual connections with other women. This may not make sense to most women, but men can more readily compartmentalize sex and relationship. If it is just about the sex, men will do whatever is necessary to sleep with a woman, even while genuinely caring for the other women he has chosen for long term relationship - it's just a matter of whether he man wants to explore sex outside of his relationship (obviously, not all men choose to do so) To the other women involved it may have seemed he was dating them, but from his perspective it was likely just sex.

Idk I think that would almost make it worse for me because there would then be 2 things that I would have no kind closure on. And I would feel so conflicted and I’d want to say things to him and ask questions and never get the chance to. And if it was me and my husband specifically I wouldn’t be able to talk 💩 about him if he died no matter what I found out. speaking ill of the dead feels taboo to me. I’m not judging her for doing it just saying I personally couldn’t. But I’ve been married to him forever so maybe that changes it. Idk but for me it wouldn’t stop the grief process so much as warp it into something harder.

Either way, he was dead and it changes nothing, other than her being more angry and bitter, and replacing any good memories she had with him with that ugly fact. I had a friend whose husband took his boyfriend, unbeknownst to her, on their honeymoon to Hawaii. He would leave saying he was going to have a smoke or to get a bottle of wine. I am in the process of divorcing my narcissistic husband of six years. The entire marriage he was on dating sites and meeting up with other women. During our separation, I found out that he was seeing his ex-wife over 20 years ago. I had met her a couple of times and I was very nice to her only for her to stab me in the back. I am on permanent disability due to his abuse, major anxiety/depressive disorder, PTSD and I developed ME/CFS from the trauma. Over 6K comments so this must be a topic that grabs many. I understand your shock, pain, anger, and relief. I've never talked about this, but my husband died when I was 27 and he was 34. We were only married 1.5 years. Shortly after his death I was cleaning things out and came across info that confirmed he had been having an affair/fling - whatever. And...not exactly a friend, but someone I was in school with. Someone who had offered condolences. I sat next to her every day!! In that instant, all the shock/horror at his early/sudden death left me but I was consumed with shock/horror at what he had done to me. I never shed another tear, never visited his grave again. Nothing. He was truly dead to me and still is. Fifty years later I've never remarried and I've been happy ever since. I wish you happiness in your future.

Let’s be honest, even if someone said something earlier, many women refuse to acknowledge it or end up staying anyways. I lost a friendship after telling my friend about her husband possibly cheating and she accused me of being jealous and that he would never and still stayed. Less than 3 years later and much more cheating, I heard from a mutual that she posted on Facebook about finally leaving the abusive relationship. Some women really don’t want to hear the truth about their husbands until they see it for themselves. Getting involved as the 3rd party only makes you look like the bad guy or a scapegoat for the husband to call you jealous and further isolate that woman from her friends/loved ones

She found out about me reading his Obit. Later on, I learned about other women. It's a horrible feeling as she explains. So many emotions all at once; it's really debilitating. All his friends knew about her which was a double whammy because I was close to them. They told me they talked to him all the time about ending it with her. Honestly, finding out was the best thing that happened for me because I would have mourned him for years. It's a game. Conquer one, establish a fake life, and juggle control over all these relationships. Get the house, the wife, the kids to create a charming facade of the perfect life to go with your charming personality, when all of it is a lie, even your personality. Anyway that led to us moving out I moved in with my grandmother he moved in with his ex brother-in-law and while I was out looking for a house for us since we were about to have our new baby he secretly moved in with the woman that he was cheating on me with for over a year. And our son was planned that was the hardest part for me to get over. He scared me for my whole life. We would still be together often for over 10 years. Which was only holding me back. 29 years old about to be 30 and those wounds never go away.

So grateful that you found healing and a way forward from the darkness of your grief. I had a similar revelation about my husband after being married for one year. Due to his public job, the entire events were plastered all over the media, there were questions about his actions on the job, and I had to testify in court about details of our marriage on several occasions. I heard people whispering about me as I tried to grocery shop. Even now, some news stories still mention it in news stories about his former employer. I never know when it will be on the front page of a newspaper or the first thing I see in my feed on social media (which was all shutdown for at least 2 years) . I lost so much of myself through that time and experience. I have never really had a chance to openly discuss it because we both have children from previous marriages. I have never shared my truth because I have chosen to protect our children from any further exposure or pain related to the ordeal. I admire this beautiful (stunningly beautiful) young woman for her courage and honesty, and I may even envy her healing (but in a good way… good for her!) I pray she has a long and happy life filled with the love she deserves. 🙏🏼
