Plumbing and heating was horrible of course. The walls are also crazy thick bricks. In 2014/15 I rode my bicycle from Saigon then thru Guangzi and Guizhou. Then a bus ride to Chengdu for a 9 week stay. Before that I was there for 3 weeks in the quaint developing years, 2006 and 2009.

How far are you guys from Shanghai or Beijing? Guangzhou. Is another place I’ve been. Nigbo etc
@TANAndy-cg9sn6 күн бұрын
It's really far away. They live in Yunnan, which is a border province in China. The weather there is nice all year round, not too hot and not too cold at all. Since it's quite a distance from the core areas of China, it's one of the least developed provinces in the country. The city they live in, Kunming, is kind of in between a second-tier and a third-tier city. In terms of administration, as it's the provincial capital, it's considered a second-tier city. But when it comes to economic prosperity and scale, it's actually a third-tier city in China. And the Beijing you mentioned is the political center of China. Shanghai is the economic center, and Guangzhou is the foreign trade center. Ningbo belongs to Zhejiang Province and it's a developing third-tier city.
@warmbreeze436 күн бұрын
@ thank you so much. I love China so much. I manufactured in China from 2000 to 2008. I really want to come back. I’m retired. It’s so cold in Beijing. I use to be there in December a lot. Foreigners were picking up their adopted children during that time. I can’t remember the city but I think the hotel I would stay at was White Swan???? Not clear on it.
@TANAndy-cg9sn6 күн бұрын
Haha. You bet! Beijing is really freezing cold in winter! You know, it's in the north of China, and the weather there makes you feel like you're in Northern Europe. In contrast, Guangzhou is down in the south of China, and it's pretty warm even during the wintertime. Come to China and relive those good old memories of yours. Compared to when you left in 2008, China has changed a whole lot now. There are just so many differences that I can't list them all for you one by one. Generally speaking, the environment here is nicer for living, and life is a lot more convenient too. Well, both South Korea and Japan in East Asia are doing great when it comes to safety and convenience in daily life. But compared with them, things in China are much cheaper. That's because China makes nearly half of the world's goods, and it's always cheaper to buy stuff where they're produced. Besides, the Chinese government buys a huge amount of grain and meat from all over the world (China has made a ton of money, and it gives back to trading partners in this way to balance the trade deficit. Actually, China's self-sufficiency rate of grain is over 95%). So the government can keep prices at a pretty low level. If you're thinking about living abroad for a long time after you retire, China would be a great choice. If you don't like winters that are too cold, you can choose to live in the southern provincial capitals of China, like Guangzhou City (it's in Guangdong Province), which you've been to before. It's warm all year round, but not overly hot. Also, Kunming City in Yunnan Province is another good option. It's warm there all year round as well. The only difference from Guangzhou is that it's a bit farther away when it comes to transportation. When it comes to food, Guangzhou's cuisine fits Europeans and Americans' tastes better. You see, Guangzhou is China's earliest open port to the outside world. It's been in touch with the West for over 200 years, so its food has blended Western tastes and cooking skills quite well in terms of flavor and how the dishes are prepared.
@warmbreeze436 күн бұрын
