If your child is old enough to travel to Europe, either by themselves or with a friend, why would they need curfew, like a 10-year-old? Sounds sus when some stranger is telling your adult child to do stuff. 🚩Major red flag. 🚩

Rick and Diane, Sophia is 18 years old. Neither one of you are capable of treating her as though she was NOT 18 years old. She does have a life outside of your boundaries. She's even old enough to go live with either Zöe or Marcus if she wanted to.

The mother needs to be put under evaluation. 2 weeks while her daughter is gone she lets a guy move in after dating him for a month & allows him to order her daughter around? That screams delusional & that she is messed up in the head. So many things could have gone wrong.

I would’ve given my mom an ultimatum when it was all over. I would’ve told her that I want the house in my name, since she obviously can’t be trusted with it. If not, I would write her off.

Her mother should’ve stopped and thought when he suggested a curfew for her daughter. You let your daughter go to Europe for two weeks with a friend and now you wanna put her on a curfew like you don’t trust her. The mother should’ve seriously thought about that one coming from him. And what the heck is wrong with you? You only knew the guy for a month and you let him move in. I don’t care if she wasn’t home at the time, but as a mother, you have to protect your daughter, bringing a strange man into the house. I know she’s 18 but you just don’t bring a strange man into the house. And where do you come off letting him set up rules. He has no right to set rules in your house but you were too oblivious because you had a boyfriend. And talking about him bringing stability while it was obvious you and your daughter had plenty of stability. Your daughter is 18 going to college and working at a job. She did not need a curfew. She did not need ground rules of any kind, and if she wanted to speak back to some creep, you should’ve let her he was not a father. He was just some man you let into the house. She can express her feelings freely. Remember when you get involved with a man and after a month like I said, before, think about your daughter, or any children, you may have in the house, they as your children are your first priority. I’m glad the OP was able to nail it and get him arrested. So another thing the mother was oblivious to why are you somebody you’ve only known for a month asking for his name to be put on the house deed. That’s a big red flag there. That’s a big no-no. The mother should’ve said a firm. No not. I’ll think about it. And don’t turn your back on your daughter when she’s trying to tell you some thing. She play that conversation for you listen to it but no, you chose to listen to what he was saying. And you were even get a lame dictate whether your daughter got kicked out of the house or not. And when things started going missing in the house you as the mother should’ve been suspicious of the boyfriend you brought into the house. It’s a good thing that the OP in the story was very alert to what was going on or the oblivious mother would’ve lost her house.

The sad part is there are so many women out there who allow these very convincing creeps in and they do horrible things to thier children. A woman should never be that desperate for a man to allow anyone in to harm the babies.

Risky move to leave mom in the hands of a professional conman for a week. Mom would have readily signed over the house during that time and it would have then become the collateral for Rick's bail bond and lost forever as he skipped town for the next mark. Rick was not acting alone. Once mom signed over the house, it would be legally Rick's house. And thus, available for collateral for bond (proving a case against this would take more time than would be available, if even possible). Single moms are targets and the lonely ones are easily manipulated. If a mom is in this situation, the house does not have to be in the boyfriend's name to get a better rate. House can be in her name with the mortgage in his name. Further, is BF paying for ANYTHING? If he is not already helping with the mortgage or other household expenses, then it would be beyond foolish to even consider signing over anything. Even if he is paying for all of it, that would be generous, but not worth the whole house in his name. If he is looking long term, then it doesn't matter if the house remains in her name.

It is so disgusting when parents of older children move boyfriends and girlfriends in the home after knowing them a few weeks and try to convince them that person has their best interest at heart. They could not possibly because they don’t even know them. How foolish, childish, and inconsiderate of their children.

Sophia, like you said before, you're an 18-year-old college student but your mom and Rick tried to ground you. If anything, you're 18 years old, you attend college, and you work. You can live someplace else. You can even live with one of your best friends if you wanted to. If your mom and Rick want to treat you like a kid and keep you from going anywhere, then you do NOT have to live with them.

I hate to say it but most parents only apologize to their kids to appease them. I can't say the same for my mom though. My mom is awesome. However, when I was in elementary school I have made a lot of mistakes that have gotten me into trouble even though I never meant to do the things that I did to get in trouble, but I guess my dad didn't care about that. Once when I was in second grade he tried to ground me from snacks. My mom was furious at him. I still haven't forgiven him for that. That was unforgivable in my eyes. He abandoned me just before high school started though. And ever since then I've been missing a father figure in my life besides my grandfather. He stepped in and he's an awesome man. He's 65 years old now and still working as a carpenter. I guess from what I heard he doesn't want to retire yet but I don't know if I heard that right. And then in my sophomore year of high school I was sick a lot which caused me to fall behind. I had a substitute teacher for my supportive studies teacher because she was on maternity leave, and that substitute proceeded to come to my desk and tell me I had an F in science. But that was because of how sick I was that year. I have herpes Symplex on the left side of my face, so when she told me that I stressed out so much I got stress blisters. My mom was very mad at her. I wanted to get her fired. But I knew that that wouldn't have been the right thing to do and God wouldn't have liked that. Yes I'm a Christian. So I just kept my mouth shut.
