Kids are so mean for no reason. I don't even know why. I myself got bullied in elementary so when I moved to a new school for HS, I reinvented myself and became pretty popular. That didn't stop me from risking it all to hang out with the outcasts and losers. A lot of them were either just socially inept or are on the spectrum so I had nothing but empathy for them, but it was hard being the only one holding the fort. I was even more helpless when my family moved away and my only update was that some time after I left, was that one got expelled for being a 16 year old with a 10 year old. Others didn't feel sympathy while I who was no longer involved still felt immense guilt for not being there.

Maybe making kids realize how horrible it is will teach them to think twice before they bully others and it could just as easily be them put in that situation. Sheltering kids entirely doesn't stop this from happening. Amanda speaking up saved countless others. Kids need to be aware of the tactics used by others to manipulate them and what others may be going through. That's how we create kind empathetic kids. Sheltering them from realities doesn't let them grow up into people that can help contribute to changing that. We could all have been Amanda, our daughters, nieces and goddaughters could fall into the hands of a predator, the internet referred to ruining a girl's life with the cheap and embarrassing excuse of _"she asked for it"_ instead of asking why an OLDER MAN harasses a girl!!!! Unfortunately, Amanda's case is the _"bad ending"_ of what could have been the end of another case of the girl _"Jessi Slaughter"_

Children shouldn't be given devices that can even put them on the internet like this. And if they are given devices they should have software like Canopy installed so something like this can't ever happen. This is a bad parent issue. The parent did become better after the fact but all of this could have been avoided if she had parented better to begin with.

Blame both girl's neglectful and willfully ignorant parents. Why would you buy your daughter a laptop that has access to anything without you even knowing about it, about the laptop itself? Just slow, they caused their kid's demise by being so willfully neglectful and turtle-brained. You think I'd just give my kid something they asked for without me looking into it? Then, they didn't even monitor their children on the computer like most normal parents...I'm talking about checking what sites and games they're on. That's clearly on the rents. They failed their kids by letting them go wild on the computer, and now the only way she can see her kid is through the computer screen or in photos; they're suffering in reget. Yes regret enabling your attention-seeking, love deprivedfast daughters.

@@fool4343 No, you tell me, you're literally called "fool", lol.Being a teen and having the latest tech stuff is fine and all, but what's not fine is the turtle-minded parents just buying the things and not even looking into it or asking why? Just willfully and blindly giving your kids up to the evils of what's on and in the latest tech. Setting up their kids to be groomed and or taken. Parents need to be more vigilant and monitor their tech usage. Also, that's the problem, trying to fit in. Amanda tried that, and look where it got her. Stick to being yourself and not some copy-paste; you don't live an enjoyable life; playing follow the leader. You have your own mind, so use and be you smh. I never fit in during school, and it was because I didn't WANT TO. I CHOSE TO STAND OUT and be unique, be me; I wasn't gonna copy all the other girls and do my makeup in the bathroom, wear all the tight pants, crop tops, shoes that cost hundreds, and long nails...like is this the club or school? LOL, yes, I was called weird for standing out, and I didn't mind, and I don't mind to this day; I'll happily be weird because guess what. Nobody remembers a literal copycat clone trying to fit in everywhere. But NO ONE ever forgets the weirdo, the weird girl standing out, without a care. ☺
@Joomluh123 ай бұрын
@@askwhateverlol Where do you get off blaming a victim? Did your parents monitor your entire online life? Are they also tech savvy enough to do that? It's quite rare for those born before the 90s to know how to even operate a computer, let alone be aware of the nuances of Internet danger. Kids are also sneaky, and they'll figure out a way around their parents. I sure as hell did in 2011, by hacking a PSP to use an IRC client and web browser. You think my mother knew the device was Internet capable when she tried shutting me off? Of course not. Cases like Amanda's are what educate them, as unfortunate as that is. Nobody should have to die for something like this, but it's a surefire way to make people aware that there's even a necessity to be educated.

It is just sad that she couldn't talk to her mom and tell her the person was threatening her instead of complying. I know little kids are still emotionally immature as far as reason or logic goes, but her last message to her mom was, "Don't be mad at me?" That is extremely telling.... I feel for her mom, but I really don't think she knew how to give her daughter emotional support. I hope parents these days can learn and will be willing to go with their children to a therapist or social worker together to figure out how they could possibly try to help their children in situations like these. I'm glad the mom helped shut these guys down and helped others.

They talked about internet safety and cyberbullying, but the thing I remember them drilling in the most was not to take or send nudes. While I completely agree with the sentiment, it does kind of skip past some of the horrors of this case, and is disturbingly close to victim blaming. I know that’s not how it was intended by my school, and we were far too young to know all the details of the case, but I wish they’d focused more on telling us to seek help if we ever faced that sort of pressure online. None of this was her fault, and I’m just grateful enough people decided to care, and they caught the evil man who did it.

After the lockdowns my kids really struggled. The hardest question I have ever had to ask, each one, was where their head was and if they were thinking about s*icide. One said yes and one lied. I quit work (RN) and stayed home for the next year. It was a no brainer for my husband. They are all thriving now and look back on that time as "the dark days". Thankfully we live in Fla and the lockdowns were gone quickly. I may not have been so lucky if we had been in Cali or one of the other long-locked states. And that we were broke for a long time, so going back to 1 income was no problem. My kids have never had SM, even now that they are 4 years older. The loneliness of the lockdowns prompted their feelings. I cannot imagine how isolated Amanda felt. 😢 May God bless her mom and dad

what's concerning is how quick these platforms, (like KZbin and FB) are to cancel someone over trivial things, vs how they let things like this happen. the downfall of amanda was due to ensemble cast that includes these platforms that not only allow this horrible activity, but also fosters the bullying that then takes place. after all, the algorithm does highlight posts with more action, whether it's good OR bad! I hate this "criminalize the victims, victimize the criminals" mentality we have...we all KNOW the right ways to treat others and protect ourselves; we all TALK about what we need to do (and not do), but nobody DOES much of anything, except dismiss, invalidate, manipulate, gaslight, label, shame, and bully. Gotta red tape ourselves into *seeming to be a genuine, caring person, or group, but hiding behind the will and ability to decrease the value of others while never having to be held accountable for their choices and actions, and get their target to receive consequences they don't deserve. Wonder why so much of the world is so disconnected, apathetic, ambivalent, and ready to exit stage left...bet my comment gets taken down, too.
