Look I section is a section which completely symmetrical about its horizontal and vertical axis which are passing through the centre of the I section. So in case of symmetrical i section its centre is its centroid. So no need to calculate. But in case of Unsymmetrical i section you have to calculate x bar and y bar

I got a question in my mechanics, An I section of 100mm×10mm top and bottom flanges and connected by centrally placed web 10mm×120mm. Determine moment of inertia of the section about its BOTH CENTROIDAL AXIS? What does both centroidal axis mean? I just did what you you have shown in my exam, both axis mean anything more? Cause I just did ixx and iyy just as shown in the video, did I had to do anything more? I'm so tensed that I did something wrong, is there anything more as the question paper stated both axes or it's just ixx and iyy?cause it's symmetrical in both y and X axis.

I-section, having overall depth of 500 mm, top flange width of 200 mm, bottom flange width of 300 mm. Thickness of web, and both flanges is 20 mm. Find the position of centroid of section, calculate Moment of Inertia, about horizontal axis passing through centroid. Find shear stress distribution variation along the depth, if section is subjected a positive share for V (where V is in Newtons). Where shear stress will be maximum, and find ration of maximum shear stress to average stress.

Since it is a symmetrical I section still we should use the parallel axis theorem? Because in your video about symmetric T section where it is symmetric about YY axis you said that since centroids of individual section as well as centroid of whole structure lie on axis so no parallel theorem. Shouldn't that be the same here too?

Sir the given I section is symmetrical about Y axis and the centroids of all the three individual rectangles are lieing on the global Y-Y axis. So in this case the "h" term will become zero. So ultimately the "Ah^2" term of parellel axis theorem will be zero. So thats why i have not used the parelles axis theorem for Y-Y axis If you still have any doubt, feel free to ask, i will surely help you
