I purchased 2 Highland heifers back in late September these two are about as tame a cows as I have ever seen, I have to brush them every day , I was giving them carrots and apples but my older one just spits them out at me now she would rather spend the time getting brushed, They are a great edition to our farm and family. Hope Momentous is to yours also.

Thank you, he has made quite a bit of progress since bringing him home. He seems to like brushing some so far, but is still a little nervous at times

You are really doing well with your cows. I see your heart and great intentions with them. You might try backing off just a little on your new cows in the first 24 hours or so. Give them a chance to settle down a bit more and don't encroach on the only safe space they feel like they have available to them in that first day (don't enter their pen if you can avoid it). Approach from the other side of the panels. Good for them and safer for you too. Love your channel. Proud of you and your family for your farming efforts.

Thank you, you're probably right. After that initial day of bringing him home I've just spent time outside the pen talking to him a bit and providing the feed. I'm planning on putting another young bull in with him today to see if that helps also

Getting new critters is always exciting and the urge to "connect" with them quickly is always strong. At the point that they reach your farm, they are usually totally freaked out and any effort to connect with them has a greater potential to add to their stress than to calm them down. BTW... I'm kinda jealous of your Highlands! May have to get some of those beauties.

Best thing to do with that fella is pen him in small til he calms down a bit. You can tame him the best that way I think. By hand feeding and one on one attention I know you’ll have a great addition to your herd! Btw love your channel😀
@100AcreWoodHighlands3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm hoping to keep him in that pen so I can give him lots of close contact for a while

Hey y'all, That is a great looking bull. I think y'all will have him calmed and tamed no problem. Three registered heifers' and a registered bull = 3 more registered calves each time they breed. ???Do folks ever use registered bull with unregistered cows or is that taboo???

What ratios do you feed your highlands?
@100AcreWoodHighlands3 жыл бұрын
I bought a 17.5% protein, 4% fat and 20% fiber blend from one of the local feed stores recently.

It's so that they can be trained to lead with a halter.
