My city used to have a commercial FM radio station dedicated to jazz. I heard Kevin Eubanks on that station back in college. I bought Kevin's records and instantly fell in love with his writing, his playing, and the contributions of his collaborators. I went to a club to see his band. Between songs, Kevin asked if anyone was celebrating a birthday. I was too shy to speak up, and I gave my date some stink eye. I was grateful she didn't rat me out. That birthday lives in my memory as a gem!

Awesome guitarist. Saw him at the baked potato with smitty on drums and they were fucking brilliant. I said hello to him after the set and told him that I was a metal guitarist trying to learn some elements of jazz like extended chords, harmony, and playing outside, etc. Asked him what some of the extended chords in his song "Spider Monkey Cafe" were used, and he told me the entire main progression! We talked for what felt like ten minutes and he was super encouraging and never acted like he was too busy or too cool to talk to some nerdy white kid. What a privilege!

We (our Jazz Club) had Kevin's trio up at Penn State in the early '80's (he was out of Philly). I think it might have been his cousin and brother, and him, if I remember. If we were 20 yrs old, he may have been 23 - 24. Super nice guy, kinda soft spoken, but a very cool guy. Wasn't surprised that he would go on to fame and fortune on the Tonight Show and his jazz career.

I have this album...I you to play this all the time...Buddy Williams is my favorite so is Kev Eubanks and Marcus Miller...this has super refreshing clear your mind traveling down the highway on vacation...you dig

i remember the first time i heard this tune, it was on jazz radio. most guitarists who play at this speed just showcase their sheer firepower. but Kevin is firepower PLUS lyricism, and that is so rare. i was completely floored by the end, and searched high and low for the album. this was long before the internet.
