My son's teacher told me a story about my son defending someone with a disability in his class from a bully. Sometimes, our children, in their innocence, can make us extremely proud.

Congrats on raising a good man. I assume you told him how proud you are?

I was laughing and crying all through this. The little boy giving his coat to a little girl started the tears. Precious.

Nice. A lot of stories involving teachers and students frequently involve students and teachers flinging BS at each other, or trying to wreck each other’s lives. It’s refreshing to see more light hearted content.

My second year teacher, I had a 2nd grader who had ADHD and was very bright. He kept me on my toes all year and I had regular communication with his mom. I still have the card she wrote as a thank you. It said she’d asked her son what he wanted to give me as a thank you gift. His answer was plane tickets so I could fly home. (Awww 😢) Mom explained to him (and me) that while it was a very thoughtful idea, it wasn’t in her budget. She gave me a gift card.

2:38 That guy’s got talent. It took me a bit to figure out which dog was just an elaborate painting, and which was the real thing.

So are the flowers at 3:15! Aren't they beautiful? I crochet, so I know what it takes. Look at the weensy stamens and anthers on the stargazer lily! And, I mean heck, from the colors, you can tell it's specifically a stargazer. The more I look at those flowers, the more impressed I am.

12:30 While teaching Grade 9 Foods in my second year of teaching (1996-97 school year), I had abbreviated “hair, apron and hands” as preliminary cooking preparation for each student to “HAH”, in that order. We discussed this. All the students understood this…or so I thought. A few weeks into the school year, one boy asks (He’d been there since the start of the year.), “What’s “HAH”?” and suggests that it might be “hands and h00ters”. Of course after school, I phone his mom. From her end of the phone I hear this mortified “Noooooo….”. We laughed. It was a very enjoyable (memorable) phone call for both of us.

These were so wonderful, was Grandma sitting for two small grandsons back when Obama was President,as walkers we walked past the car rider line daily, as we were walking past a “sweet Chrysler 300 “ one day , driven by a well groomed gently bearded nice black daddy, the youngest is pointing out to his brother the sweet car,as they pause to point out the things they like about it, the oldest notices the daddy driving and tells him they like his car ;then excitedly tells him and his little brother that he looks “just like the President; Abe Lincoln, I saw a picture of him in school today “you have the same beard………..❤❤❤❤❤❤

7:30 - don't presume a young child wouldn't know the word "appraised"; my Mum, I'm told, as a very young girl thought the Lord's Prayer ended with "forever endeavour, Amen" 😊

A teacher who doesn't assign homework is LAZY. Children need to practice what they are learning. Practice, practice, practice, practice - that's how they retain information. People are always idealistic about teachers, but a significant portion of them are in a job they mainly chose so they could have every holiday, evening, weekend, and summer, off of work. Another small portion of teachers wants the job so they can be in control, where they were a victim for so many years.

This would be from an elementary grade school teacher. With most high-school/secondary teachers, homework assigned is supposed to be done in class…which means that if they waste time in class, they spend their evening doing it and also don’t have the teacher there to clarify and assist…although during and after pandemic lockdown, the boundaries between “during school” and “outside of school” were blurred due to the use of Zoom (US) and Teams (Canada). This letter would not be for trade schools, colleges, universities (undergraduate) or “grad” schools (graduate - masters or doctorate).
