The Weeknd is a very unique artist in terms of the music he makes and some choices for his music videos are weird. But, that's what makes him stand out because he has a way of making sad lyrics sound catchy. He killed himself at the beginning of the video because he cut his hair and debuted a new look for this album. The cross he used to destroy everything was kind of a metaphor for him changing everything or at least that's always what I thought it meant. He has a lot more vulgar and even more odd videos and songs but he's a great artist worth checking out. The Weeknd is to today what artists like MJ or Prince were for the 80's.

@@ilikethatboulder.thatisani5496 I didn't mean weird in a bad way and yes, it's creative. But there's no denying that he puts very unusual things in his videos. He has several videos where there's a guy who is the literal representation of the devil. In Heartless, there's very weird shots of various dark almost satanic images and one of which is a horned guy in a limo. Yes, I understand in the video he was supposed to be high after licking the toad. It still was weird as hell. In Gasoline, you see a girl in a club with a snake coming outta her snatch. In many videos, there's this weird slowed down reverb effect that sounds like his music is being played in reverse. All of these things are very strange and are arranged in a way that makes no sense. And I'm a huge fan of his btw but if you say his stuff isn't weird you aren't paying much attention. That's just naming weird things in his most recent videos and not touching anything earlier from House Of Balloons on up to Starboy.

Basically, he killed his older self to be what he is now. When he says, "Look what you done" is referring to how he became famous. His lyrics are dark and deep.

The Weeknd is unmatched 🖤 I just saw him a couple weeks ago in Denver and it was one of best nights of my life. Just do everything. High For This is the first track off his first mixtape, House of Balloons. That and the After Hours album are my favorite albums from him for sure. Everything is a story 🖤 XO

Someone already broke it down into greater details, but essentially this is a newer version of The Weekend killing off the previous version of The Weeknd. He is also wrecking all the awards and material things accumulated by that previous version of himself. He's starting a new era for himself. Also The Weeknd has always been an artist of contradictions. He uses the tongue of an angel to speak the words of a devil.

What you saw at the start of the video was The Weeknd from his previous album sitting across the table from the new Weeknd with the mask on before he unveils the new image for the album. The song is sort of a song about him coming to terms with going from nothing to mega superstar (starboy). Whole first verse is him talking about he hopes that the cars and women he dates make you so jealous that it makes you feel like shit. Then he brings up how he has this big house but it's so empty and lonely so he fills that "void" by buying a centerpiece and expensive tables. He's got the girls now, he's got the money from all his success, he's still got the drugs which he's used to cover up pain his entire career. You see him smashing the shelves with all his trophies on it because even though he's made it he's still not exactly happy. Also if you didn't tell by this video the man loves his cars. In fact, during the Super Bowl he could only sing the chorus to this song because most of the verses reference a car somewhere in it, and he's sponsored by Mercedes now. With The Weeknd it's like you have to enter his world to take everything away from the songs, but there's still plenty to understand just at face value which is what makes him a good song writer and performer. But all of this is just my opinion and interpretation of what he's trying to say, someone else may comment something entirely different and be right too.
