Also, YES to the “hangover” of postdrome. I often say that my brain feels “sore,” like it’s been rattled around. And if I’m not very careful and easy on myself, I can “reactivate” that migraine.

My doctor said migraine sufferers were notorious for "hoarding" meds. I like how you explain that we're pushed into that by insurances that approve only limited amounts of meds, causing us to be reluctant to risk using one of our precious meds on something that has a chance of going away by itself. This has totally been my situation for about 35 years.

My experience of migraines was different. Nothing preceded the aura phase. In the aura phase I would sometimes experience visual and auditory sensations, perhaps some mild nausea, but there would always be a feeling of foreboding. I knew exactly what was coming next, even if the other sensations and nausea were absent, which they sometimes were. Up to about 4 hours after the aura phase started came the attack phase. The pain was excruciating and debilitating, always in one brain hemisphere and not the other. When the attack ended, usually less than a day later, a comforting feeling of equanimity came over me. I actually felt good, as if purged of something nasty. I can't say if my cognition was slowed or not, but if it was, it was mild. Everyone has their own experiences with this disease. I'm very happy to have left migraines behind me. I only wish doctors could have been helpful. They weren't, not in the slightest.
@nicoles22894 жыл бұрын
Mine are mild. My big indicator is my one eye gets super small lol the kids know that when I get slurry with my speech and my eye is small that I need to lay down. When I go lay down it varies but sometimes it knocks me out. I may wake up and my whole body feels dizzy. I’ll go back out again and than when I wake up I’m fuzzy and super exhausted. It’s nice to finally get some education on it. Thank-You!

I started having migraines about 15 years ago. For a long time I didn't know of anyone else who had these "weird" migraines. In the last few years my migraines have become more frequent and seem to last longer. My family and who don't see what I go through have no idea why I complain so much about a headache. Its soooo frustrating 😤. Thank you for making these videos so I can show my family that they are not just headaches. My cat Ringo has started letting me know when a migraine is coming. He will follow me and stare . Normally he has no interest in me other than when it's time to eat.

An olfactory aura I experience before most migraines, which has surprised every doctor I've mentioned it to: I smell something burning. Before I was diagnosed with migraines and before I realized the two were connected, I thought I was losing my mind. I would smell something burning, like the smell of a hair straightener being left on for a while--no one around me could smell it, I would walk from room to room and continue to smell it while fully aware that there was no burning smell. Realizing it was a migraine-related sensory hallucination was a game changer, because I stopped worrying (mostly) that something in my house was burning and I just couldn't find it.

Only just diagnosed by a neurologist. Iv taken myself to A&E before thinking I’m having a stroke. Iv now started to recognise a pattern over the 9 months since getting them. 4 days before my period my left foot starts to get pins and needles! Then I get dizzy when standing too long. Next I start feeling tension in my neck and shoulders , light sensitivity, tinnitus! Then boom…. Excruciating headache on the left side that lasts for 3-4 days!! Left arm goes numb, left leg gets pins and needles. I get zapping pains going into my nose, feeling sick etc. then day 5 my head just feels off, my speech slurry and I’m really foggy for another 2 days. It’s a week of hell but I know the pattern now. Iv had 4 children and although I wouldn’t compare the pain, I would say a migraine is scarier and causes anxiety which then makes the symptoms much worse.

Thank you for at the end going over that migraines don't necessarily have to have a ton of pain or any at all during attack phase. During my 5 weeks stretch of continuous migraines only about half were severe pain the rest were just minimal pain and multiple other symptoms which is the frustrating part. Just because you're not in dying pain doesn't mean a migraine attack isn't severely effecting your ability to work. The brain fog/confusion, the dysphasia, the aura, the memory interruption makes working extremely difficult, and commuting to and from work borderline dangerous. So once again thank you for mentioning that attack phase doesn't always have to come with excruciating pain.

I’m still learning about them now and finding the journey quite difficult and draining at times. Currently, I’m moving from the attack phase to the postdrome and experienced a combination of symptoms I’ve never had before to the point where I was worried for my life and sought medical attention. It’s so hard to comprehend how debilitating this condition can be for people, but I appreciate your insight so much. Does anybody here get intense crazy thirst at any point during their headache? Does anybody get really really cold and can’t maintain their body heat? Or feel like your eyes are ping pong balls when closed? Or when you close your eyes you see light gray or big blotches of color exploding and then melting? Sometimes it seems that geometric shapes are having all out laser war behind my closed eyes. I see electrical storms off in the distance and fireworks. I see glow worms weaving them selves through my vision. I see all these things with my eyes closed.Does anyone feel like they’re having a stroke when they get a headache? anybody here have all these problems but no severe head pain? I would really love to hear what you have to say about this. Seven years ago I suffered a Trumatic brain injury and have had some real problems since then with what might be silent Migraine. I didn’t even know there was such a thing. For a while they thought it might be seizures or mini stroke because I become paralyzed on one side of my body. When this problem first begins the first thing to happen is I have an intense overwhelming feeling to throw up and then I lose my speech. I lose my speech quite often as a result of lighting or Certain sounds.Just curious if anyone here recognizes these things? I’ve been struggling with this for seven years without definitive answers or relief. Im a hostage of this condition.

For those of you that suffer from chronic migraines I highly recommend you speak with your doctors as there are new treatment options now that work wonders. I'm on amovig which is a shot you get once a month and ever since I started the treatment I went from 5-15 migraines a month to just 1-3 every 3 to 5 months, without the symptoms and the usual pain of a migraine. It's a little hard to explain but since the treatment, migraines no longer feel like migraines, they feel more like headaches but without the aura or symptoms and again the pain is dull to nothing worth talking about.

For me the prodrome is an odd sense of tension and foreboding, or dread, accompanied by lots of short and irritating yawns. Then i always get a tingly sensation in the left side of my head, near my temple or behind my eye if that makes sense, and then i know whats comming. After that its the debilitating headache, nausea, light and sound sensitivity, tinglyness in fingertips, yawning, salivating, irritability and just an overal drilling tightening headache and extreme deppression. Also nasal conjestion, watery eyes, and some ear and throat pain

Oh yes...the attack phase...had one that actually lasted 11 days! I was miserable to say the least...nausea, light, sound, and scent sensitivity. UGH! I was told they missed the "window of opportunity" to get the pain etc... under control so I had to ride out the storm. And having an MRI during it just about killed me with all the noise (they were checking for a brain tumor). I was an x-ray tech for well over 20 years so I knew and dreaded what I was in for.

Random people would always say that I make the stuff up when I would say that something is wrong. Finally going to the doctor and having tests done and getting meds was great. People started to believe even if other kids at school didn't. My migraines were kinda weird as they were more like an effect of seizures that I would get. As the seizures mostly got to me at night I would suddenly wake up, fully awake and always the same symptoms: the world was moving too fast, extreme light sensitivity, the feeling as if the inside of my mouth was stone and nausea. Getting out of bed was not an option so if I didn't have the meds next to me it was a pain fest for the rest of the night and the morning. Later on we figured with the doctor that during the day another early symptoms was speech difficulty - like calling a pineapple a pumpkin or simply being unable to understand what people were saying to me. God I'm so happy these stopped a few years ago

Oh wow. I have had episodic migraines since I was 8 (which was 16 years ago) and never really understood whether they were actually migraines or just sensory hypersensitivity with bad headaches. Thanks to your channel I’m now 90% they are migraines. And I’m just now linking my flu-like symptoms to the migraines. Because I am pretty much all the time in a migraine related state, I hadn’t actually linked this feeling of overall body ache to an attack prior to it, but now… it just makes so so much sense! Thank you! Most of my doctors so far have told me I was just stressed. I get it because I hadn’t noticed that they were one sided (I know that sounds weird, but because the physical head pain is just small compared to how painful all of my senses are, I hadn’t registered that only half my face fired up when touched), and also I don’t experience it as “throbbing” or “pulsating”. So all the information you are sharing along with your personal experience are just so very welcomed. I can now link all my weird symptoms together in something that actually makes sense, and start observing the attacks with a clear framework. Also, I feel legitimated in my struggle. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you so very much! 🙏

@@MommingwithMigraine I will, but I need to try and find a doctor who knows migraines, because my GP basically said that it didn't matter much whether my headaches were migraines or not, because there's not much treatment anyways. He also did not recognise any other symptoms than the headaches as possibly related to migraines (even though I have know seen them mentioned in all the websites about migraines I have looked at). Considering that all together those symptoms make me pretty much unable continue my education, I would appreciate to actually know about treatment options 😅 So yeah, I think I need to ask a neurologist who is better informed about it to try to see if it indeed is that. But I'm still mindblown about all those new infos, and so grateful!

When I was young I got auras, but now the majority of my migraines occur or begin during my deepest sleep. I have many many health problems though and my variant migraines don’t always warn me. Triptans never worked for me. The only drug that ever worked was ergotamine. And still the only drug. I have to use a suppository. But I was thinking that I was going into rebound immediately aft4er many years of using this. Because the headache would keep coming back after 48 hrs. But now I have figured out that my migraines are just m7ch worse and last about 8-10 days, requiring remediation 4-5 times. My biggest problem is memory loss. My husband is retired now but he’d go away on a business trip and my memory loss was so bad I’d make dinner for him and he never showed up! He’d be In another state! I always tell him I’m not going to remember this or that, but Alexa helps me out now. 😜

I also don't experience those phases; I just have a constant headache for ~15 years and episodically some increased headache at my temple, which rizatriptan made worse. I don't think I have migraines, but neurologist says to try 4-5 medications first, but some people aren't responsive to some medications. Neurologist also said rizatriptan was the diagnostic test, but it doesn't make sense to use 1 medication because the neurologist also said 1 medication might not work for everyone. The neurologist also said they wouldn't read the EDS literature "Neurological and Spinal Manifestations of EDS", which I'm diagnosed with. Neurologists at Duke are biased against EDS patients, many people have reported. Some departments refuse to see EDS patients; this is discrimination.

I've had a strange experience for 15 years. 3 weeks ago, I had 'IBS' symptoms and thought it was just that. Then I get an attack of vertigo, nausea, ringing in the ears and headaches. Previously I was told it was Ménière’s disease but after speaking to a doctor this morning, he was more concerned about the headaches than the vertigo which I called about. So looking into it, symptoms of vestibular migraines fit with it, but I don't get the violent head pain, it's constantly there and mild. But throbbing.

I've never had an aura before. At least my docs and I haven't identified any. I get migraines maybe 2-3 times a month and they will last, in full, a week or so. I can't even differentiate between migraines sometimes. I've also had bad side effects to Triptans and other meds the docs prescribe, so now I'm takes with dealing. I wish I got warnings like auras though, because they come suddenly and can cause me to loose sight and/ or hearing.

I never notice a prodrome. The visual aura just hits out of nowhere, randomly. It's predictable and lasts for 30 minutes. Then, 30 minutes after that, I get a mild, yet annoying headache. That always lasts for two hours, then it's gone. I have never noticed a postdrome, or hangover phase. And sometimes, the headache never comes, just the aura only. Sometimes I go for years without a migraine, and sometimes I will get several per year. I have never been able to isolate any triggers. It's just completely random it seems. I've never taken any medications for migraine.

I'd love a video about your triggers, if you have the time and energy once baby comes!

What is your birth plan with your OB? Do you have a plan given your BP, POTS & migraine?

Sometimes mine start with a pressure around my head like a mild headache and if can happen for up to a week before I end up suddenly having a migraine. Once the pain hits so does the nausea and confusion and sensitive to light and noises and heat

My postdrome is so euphoric and calming....I'd bottle it and sell it if I could LOL. My aura is pretty intense, though.

It depends on your condition, you'll have to ask your doctor. Cheers!

What about dropping eyebrow in migraine?

I think when you read about giddiness as a symptom, it was referring to the medical definition of giddiness which is dizziness, not giggling.

I had no idea it was a word with a double meaning!

@@MommingwithMigraine I wouldn't have either haha. I only learned this when I went in for a brain MRI while they were trying to figure my vestibular migraine out and they wrote down on the report that one of my reasons for getting the scan was giddiness, and I was so confused 😅, so I figured I'd look up whether there was a secondary meaning, and surely enough they didn't misunderstand me.

I would definitely say my migraines are worse then giving birth (I've got 4 children and would rather have another 10 children then have 1 more migraine) I know it's never going to happen they never going to just stop all of a sudden after 15 years with migraines xx
