I believe that using an original track has higher class than making a new and cool rhythm for a character ,that really shows that Kafka is an original, besides since she doesn’t belong to any nation it makes sense that she doesn’t have a trailer music that represents a native culture like Raiden shogun does

But god her trailer is so good. Classical music, visual effects, minor details, her… it’s a perfect masterpiece. Hoyo definitely knows their audience because they made trailer so good for a character everyone wants

I do really like how these trailers started out as pure showcases of characters and their kit back in Genshin, and now they have become their own art form. Every one unique and mastercrafted to absolute perfection. This thing is 2 minutes long. I wonder how long it took to script, to get the music to be just right, to animate, the voices, the subtleties, the design of the character that was there but needed to be made beforehand and some point… it’s just amazing. I mean, it’s for a gotcha game of course, this is how they make money and literally their job… but they’re doing a damn bloody fine job if I may say so.

Fun trivia: that butterfly/bugs image you saw was actually a reference to Rorschach’s Inkblots. It was used in psychology to probe into the subconscious. In the video, the texts “what do you see” overlays that shot. Some people see butterflies, some see a dark and threatening image, some people see something sexual etc. It reveals the inner mind. Very cool they used that in Kafka’s trailer since she’s all about the psyche.

She also carries numerous references to her namesake, the bohemian writer Franz Kafka (who admittedly I despise, having had to read his works in school). His most famous work "Die Verwandlung" (“Metamorphosis”) sees the titular character transformed into a bug. Kafka’s Design in game is very much inspired by this, the references to spiders and spiderwebs, her jacket being worn in a way that makes it seem like she has 6 arms, the glasses worn on her head above her actual eyes giving her the appearance of having e eyes like some insects and arachnids, the buckles and clasps looking like insectoid pincers… it’s really well thought out.

A dramatic irony is a literary term. When the audience knows something that the characters do not, like in Romeo and Juliet the audience knew Juliet was only pretending to be dead with a sleeping potion but Romeo did not. Its like watching a trainwreck in motion.

Oneiric structure refers to using dream like imagery in films. Combined with the references to Non-Linear Structure, MacGuffin, Fin, Intermission, and that web event the other day where she makes movie posters with her, Silver Wolf and Blade makes me think she has a connection to Aha.

So from what I was able to pick up from the intermission bit, it’s saying she’s the device moving the plot to its conclusion. Her goal is to make Elios story into reality. Putting the stellaron in you, and leading you along is just part of the story. She’s also been linked with spiders, and those are usually linked with fate/destiny. Also her character design is based on her namesake - Franz Kafka was a bohemian writer who’s arguably most famous work is the Metamorphosis ("Die Verwandlung"), which revolves around a guy waking up one day only to find himself transformed into… take a guess… a giant insect. Her design obviously plays on this: the references to spiderwebs, the fact that she wears her coat with the sleeves out so that it seems like she has 4-6 arms, her glasses posed on her head to give her the appearance of 4 eyes, the clasps all over looking like mandibles… From a design standpoint it’s amazing stuff.

I loved the entirety of this trailer and I agree that it very well may be the best one Hoyoverse has ever made until now, or at least on the same level as Raiden Shougun's. 🕸💜🖤 And I love all the details, one of them being that you can hear her shooting the guard at 5:46 in your reaction for he probably guessed wrong.

A 'macguffin' is an item or goal that serves absolutely no purpose other than to further the plot of a book or movie. Like in all Indiana Jones movies, whether they're chasing the Lost Ark or a Crystal Skull, that object is a macguffin. It suggests that whatever Kafka is chasing, it could be totally irrelevant to everyone except her. Meaningless but she doesn't know it yet!
