I'm watching this and am jealous of your birthing room! Both my boys were born in our tiny town hospital. The "birthing" room was just one of the rooms with the second bed moved out. But it worked so ... also, I did both naturally with no pain assistance. My first was 14 hour labor, the second was two stop starts, sent home, then third trip a week from first...half an hour! But I stopped contracting once he was out so I had to have the Pitocin then and the nurse still had to help express my placenta. That was awful!

Congratulations on the baby and im so sorry and i feel really really bad on his you were treated, when i was in labor with my second son I had a very rude nurse and now thinking about it i had rude very very very rude nurses with my third son, so i understand and feel your pain from people that are suppose to make this experience wonderful, suppose to make sure your comfortable, and also supposed to treat you and pamper you like a queen

A nurses job is to keep you alive and healthy, it is not to pamper you and treat you like a queen. We aren't servants, we are literally there to make sure you don't get worse or die, and to respond with medical intervention if you do. The reason you think you had rude nurses is because you had the false idea that you were supposed to be pampered and treated like a queen like it was some sort of spa day.

Everyone is saying the table was blocking her way to her patient but the first shove she had plenty of room to her right side, was even headed to the right, NOT the patient, and still felt the need to bump/shove the table.. she’s clearly just nasty. It amazes me the amount of uncaring and ill mannered people that choose to become nurses.

Your short brought me here… My labor and delivery was actually wonderful- I was blessed with really caring nurses. I did have one bad experience. It was at my last appointment before my induction and the last ultrasound of my son before I gave birth. The nurse did not greet me just came in and told me to lay down. I had issues breathing (pulmonary embolism) and struggled with breathing when laying flat. She snapped that she couldn’t do it if I couldn’t lay flat and I would have to reschedule. My husband helped me and she went quickly through rubbing around my stomach and printed out a single blurry picture of my baby. I began to cry but didn’t want to cause a scene if my husband got upset (he was). We met with the doctor in a conference room and not in the room where my ultrasound was taken. The nurse came in looking back and forth between us like she was nervous and the doctor said she could leave. She knew she was wrong and was afraid. I didn’t speak up and I regret it. This was my first pregnancy and it being already traumatic, this interaction only added to it. I cried writing this because I remembered how I felt robbed of enjoying a part of my already shortened pregnancy.

My son and his partner were 2.5 hrs. away from their doc, and she was a week past due. They decided to induce her on N.Y.Eve. They traveled back from Joshua Tree to L.A. to start a pit. drip at 7a.m. both of them have their own businesses and a toddler 2 hrs away. Neither of them wanted induction. I was a dula for a Nurse Midwife years ago. I suggested some 'boom chicka wow wow' that evening and she was in full labor by 4a.m. and baby at 6!

Your anesthesiologist was soooooooo much nicer than mine. He was in a rush and actually told me that I needed to hurry up and “get ready” because he was late for surgery. He was so rushed that my epidural failed, I felt everything, and I had a panic attack because of the pain. I was only 20 😢

This was what happened with my first. I had a midwife and she didn’t want to intervene but the hospital didn’t like it to go over 24 hrs so after trying everything else, I was given Pitocin which made the contractions come on hard. And because I had Pitocin the hospital policy was that I had to stay in bed. I wasn’t able to use the shower or tub😢

I’m so sorry how the medical community treats you moms now!!! All my kids had to come via Pitocin….but they started it 6 hours after water broke…and the other two, induced and babies came within 6 hours….

Sooo......I don't know if this will help...but I will try to explain. I will start by saying I am a certified nurse midwife of 31 years, so have seen MANY multips ( more than one baby) with this issue. Also has seen MANY women obsessed with 'going natural'. They make Pit the enemy....never realizing it is a TOOL that we use. The physiology is as follows. Most women on their 3rd plus babies are around 2-4 cms by 39 wks. When your water breaks, if there are no contractions , then the risk of infection is increased. This can happen very quickly, or very slowly. Sometimes in as little as 2-4 hours. Waiting for contractions is not inappropriate, and natural methods, such as she used by nipple stimulation, can be tried, but the recommendation is pit if no labor within 6-12 hours. An infection ( called chorioamnionitis) can cause dysfunctional labor, because the uterus becomes infected and doesn't contract efficiently. The baby also would have to go to NICU and the mother can get septic, requiring a longer hospital stay. Pitocin is a tool that we use in these situations to prevent worse things from happening. In this woman's case, she needs what I call a 'whiff' of pit...about 2-6 milliunits to get going....and then she will labor. To try to control the amount of pitocin is ridiculous....because it is a hormone...and all women are different. Some women need 2 milliunits (mu) and others need 18mu. What matters is a contraction pattern that changes the cervix....so that is the goal. To think that less pit will cause less painful contractions, is true in the sense that you won't actually be in labor, so yes, it won't hurt. But ALL contractions , your own or pit contractions, hurt. Period. Fact. You cannot have a baby out of your vagina and not have it hurt. There are some freaks of nature that don't have as much pain with birth, but in 31 years... I have seen only about 3 of them. I am not one of those midwives that uses pretty words, thinking that if you call a contraction a 'rush' or a 'surge' it won't hurt as much. Contractions f ing HURT! I can also say this situation happened to me with my first child ...and I did not have an epidural. So it is possible to have a 'natural' birth with pit. Do pit contractions hurt more? Yes. Can you do it? Yes. Now here is where providers screw up...they just keep increasing the pit. All you need is a good pattern, contractions every 2-3 minutes in active labor, and then every 5 minutes in second stage pushing. Once a good pattern is achieved, the pit can be maintained...or decreased. It can even be turned off at the pushing stage if needed. But most DOCTORS think contractions need to be every 2 minutes all the way through labor. This is false and does not follow the physiology of labor. And finally, this whole "I want to go natural'...makes me crazy. Let's talk about what is natural. Cholera is natural. Tornadoes are natural. Hurricanes are natural. Bubonic plague is natural. Cancer is natural. So natural...is NOT ALWAYS BETTER. The reason medicine has advanced is to lengthen our lives by protecting us from 'natural' things. Women and Babies DIED from infection, protracted/ arrested labor, blood loss, etc. So, thank God we have PIt and can use it as a tool to SAVE LIVES. It is not the end of the world to need pit in your labor, and the amount doesn't matter. What matters is having a provider who knows how to use it, and a good doula to get you through your labor.

I hope this makes sense but are there women who's bodies are for lack of a better word immune to pitocin? Basically your body doesn't react to it? Because I got it with my daughter then I only dilated to three and no more after 17 plus hours which resulted in me having a C-section and my sister was on it for over 20 hours and only dilated to 2 maybe 3 the Dr said so she got a C-section and turns out our mother was the same way she laid for 38 hours with me before finally dilating (which was in the 80s) and my sister was born in 93 and my mom was 34 hours with her and had to have a C-section because she wasn't dilating. We have larger babies so idk if that has anything to do with it or not.

In the home birthing space (with CNM or CPM) they often allow for 24hr+ of broken water without contractions and have tremendous success. To help prevent infection they'll often perform little to no cervical checks, increase water intake to replace umbilical fluid, and dose with natural infection fighters like vitamin c and garlic. Again, plenty of women in the home birthing space with medical professionals find ways to allow their body's the time to start contracting without pitocin. It's okay if someone's priority is to avoid pitocin. Maybe they don't want a hospital birth. Maybe they had a traumatic induced birth. Maybe they just don't want what is often considered a more painful birth (pitocin often does cause intense contractions and contractions with double peaks). Not everyone will want to take the risks. However, informed consent means you give each patient the statistics of home likely infection is and all their options. Doesn't sound like they were given statistics just vague "infection is more likely after 12+ hours of ruptured membrane". I don't think I would want you as my midwife because you seem unsympathetic and you don't seem to be very holistic in nature. Also, you cannot judge why someone wants a natural birth and you should value their goals without humiliation and degradation. I get it, give your medical opinion. However, people have to make the decision that sits right with them and their family and it might not have been what you would have done and that's okay.

@@ahem....bullsheet3720 I would say in the scenarios you described, with the information you gave me...that pit did not work because the cervix wasn't ready. We use different medications on the cervix than the uterus. If you use pitocin on an unripe cervix...it will not dilate. Patience is the key....and if the induction was done on a first time mom....they need more time.

These doctors and hospitals drive me nuts . I had my daughters very quickly and I had NO LABOR ! My water broke and my body took care of everything and it was several hours before the babies decided it was time to great the world . First baby was born in 44 minutes from the "pressure" and the second in 45 minutes . Each one was born with 2 pushes .

She's been in labor for over 12 hours at this point. With her water already broken. Infection can harm the baby. Labor stalling is a real thing.
@theannas283
@theannas283 9 күн бұрын
@@arianne494 So there are sign of infection: smell, fever, etc. Infection isn't super likely unless your cervical checks are frequent or it's been 48 hours. In the home birthing space they will continue care 48 (and sometimes longer) and they have great results with that. They perform little to no cervical checks, increase liquid intake, and give natural infection fighters such as vitamin c and garlic tablets. Again, all with very positive results. So, just because the doctors have a different policy doesn't mean there aren't other options with positive results. I don't see the doctor giving statistics on the risk of infection post 12 hours. The nurse in the beginning even stated that most women go into labor 18-24 hours. I would personally be pissed to not get the full 24 hours. Labor can change so quickly and go from 4cm feeling no pain to 10cm feeling lots of pain within an hour.
