Also, I can't believe she just referenced Portishead Live in Roseland NYC - Best live album ever recorded - and Beth Gibbons new single is one of the best of her career. "Floating on a Moment." I have always thought Detox would be a fun hang but when she dropped Portishead Live in Roseland NYC I knew the vibe was RIGHT. So agreed on the new single too, Beth is amazing.

I guess if someone held a gun to my Portishead, I'd have to pick "Sour Times" just because of that epic growling and wailing at the end. She jumped, head first, right into the lava pits of hell for that one. And, I appreciates it! But, "Glory Box" has been my shower song since I was 15. I don't know what it is about being in warm water, but that song kind of involuntarily wants to come out, every time. I actually did a cover of Glory Box with a 4-track recorder, many years ago. I cut the bottom out of a styrofoam cup and put it around the mic, so I could get that hollow, distant effect. Added strange vocals on the 4th track to somewhat mimic strings and piano, which I later heavily warped, altered, fried, and bent so that it didn't sound like someone's voice. It was one of the (very) few recordings I ever made, that I was proud enough to pass around :) There's my life story, lol.

I always knew we were a lot a like...we like to unapologetically party but still pay the bills, love extremes because the rest is boring, and have a dark sense of humor (like, really dark)...but under all that wreckless chaos is a bitch that will help you move, and show up at your aunt's funeral with a strawberry pie. lol. I hadn't heard any of Beth's stuff for a LONG time (aside from Roseland NYC always in the rotation)...I didn't even know the studio and live albums she did with that Rustin Man (sp?) dude. So when I saw the new single on Spotify, I instinctively braced myself...because you know our girl never stopped sucking down a pack of menthols per day since we were in high school. And damn...I think she may sound better than she ever has...which I know is cliché to say, and usually a bullshit compliment, but she actually does! She's a unicorn... I smoked for 6 years, and it dropped my voice down 2 octaves, permanently, lol

All the feels and emotions you describe for "Sour Times" and "Glory Box" is how "Roads" has been for me from the very first time I heard it!! It's a song that I have put on repeat for hours on end, more times then I could even begin to count!! For good, bad, and mediocre times in my life.... When I just needed to feel something! Always with some degree or amount of crying!! It's just always been cathartic for me, in a way I can't even begin to understand... I just put it on and go with it!!!
