for anybody still watching this : I found that its a lot easier to do this if you set the ZR and ZL triggers to jump and special, and just first test out doing the jumping dial --> smash --> uair. it lets you get the feel of what you should do after landing the uair, cuz for me it was somehow a bit too hard to learn all in one go, even if it was just a uair in the beginning. just landed my first cyclone tonight and i'm really happy about it lol

I edited my controls to add these exact macros before I even read this comment. I highly recommend anyone who sees this to use this advice, since it helps pulling off not just Monado Cyclone but also Dial Storage without using Nair and lateral short hops.

Looks insane, overcomplicated, near impossible to actually pull off mid match, scary as hell, and way too overpowered. exactly what Shulk is made for. Do you think MALLC can improve this combo by dialing the second you land instead of midair?

I know this video is almost a year old; however, for those beginning Shulk players that want to use this when he says use UpA, use the C/Right-stick. If youre a Shulk or Ultimate player, you should be using the C/Right-stick for aerials and tilts.

Around 2:13 when you say "hold jump and special during the up air" when I do it, Shulk just pulls out the dial instead of jumping. Do I need to also time the dial right or am I doing it wrong?

don't cycle to speed. use the dial instead. your dial is opening because you have some stored dial frames.

I had a similar issue for me the solution was to not hold down special and jump during the up-air or at least not hold down on special and jump as fast as I could I don’t fully understand how that makes a difference but I hope it helps u

Roov_ Pneuma no you want a buffered dial jump in order for this to be true, dont cycle and dont get any dial charge when doing cyclone, you want to hold jump and special in uair

Curious, what control setup do you use? I'm using a Gamecube controller and L jump, but I find repressing the shoulder button during the up-air to be difficult due to the trigger travel time. It seems you need to release and repress jump during the up-air for it to be properly buffered.

From what percentage to what percentage does this kill confirm works on an average? I know the lighter the character the faster it works on but i would like to kniw an average range of when to pull it off.

About 40-60 or so? It's very fall speed dependent.

If you have frame-perfect timing, it can work around 40% but above like 45% it's easy to land.

doing this with a pro con without mapping jump or special to triggers is hard, but do-able. after the short hop up air (not using c stick (using a button) I move my finger to cover b and x. The hardest part easily is just making sure that you have enough time between landing and jumping for the second up air that the dial comes out. Too fast and shulk just jumps. Too slow and the dial comes out before he jumps. Easily the hardest part is just getting timing down. I can get this confirm 1/3 times, tho it’s hard to get it to be true. Keep in mind however I haven’t really toyed with dial storage, although i plan to in the future. The timing is rather strict. Any tips? (I don’t actually main shulk btw I just play him as a secondary)

Safe just means that you can't punish it. Most characters lack a frame 6 option that they can do out of shield, so Shulk should always be able to avoid their counterattack

@@ChemyChem Safe just means you can't be punished. Offensive options (especially out of shield) are much slower than defensive options, so it's very common for moves to be safe while still being minus. Smash has almost no moves besides projectiles that are actually plus on block.

For instance, Pichu's grab out of shield is frame 10, whereas Shulk's spotdodge is frame 3. So, even though Shulk is minus 6, he still gets his spotdodge out before Pichu can grab (10-6 > 3)

The future of smash for Shulk doesn't look good after seeing the set with Light (Fox) vs Nicko (Shulk) Parrying will be Shulk's biggest challenge. Any ideas on how to counter this because Shulk's start up is, still, a huge problem. I would tweet this, but I don't have twitter. Dial Storage Landing Lag Cancel switch into Arts for I-Frames would have to be labbed but that may not cut it. TwoScoops Nicko vs Caiusred (Roy): although Nicko won, the first set you see the potential for even Roy to destroy Shulk with parrying. The Roy player fell off using his fundamentals and began f smashing greedily.

In my opinion, parrying won't be a huge obstacle for Shulk. Not only are some of his aerials safe on parry, there's a lot of room to mix up your timing and spacing to throw the opponent off.

Then watch light vs kome, and you will notice, parry is not a problem at all :) if you are good at spacing with shulk those aerials are safe on parry, especially backair
