On Samus/Olimar: There's no one thing that really makes the matchup worst, it's just a combination of a lot of small things. He's small, making him hard to hit and combo. He's able to basically make a wall with Pikmin that completely stops projectiles, including totally shutting down all levels of Charge Shot for basically no commitment on Olimar's end. Samus doesn't have super early kill confirms, so relies on building up a lot of damage on her opponent, but Olimar out-damages her with passive Pikmin damage. And Samus doesn't have a great way to knock Pikmin off of her - Screw Attack is great but leaves her vulnerable, and Up air or Nair only work for certain angles. And finally, Samus has good up-close options unless the opponent has disjoints, and every Pikmin is a disjointed attack.

I agree. She’s an example of probably the biggest issue with lot of the DLC characters and some of the non DLCs. The dev team was too experimental and failed to actually have these characters stick in an actual archetype and giving them the benefits of certain archetypes w/o actually giving them the typical weaknesses of these archetypes to help balance them out. In min-mins case she a zoner but lacks projectile hitboxes to actually function like a true zoner so reflectors do nothing and she can endlessly spam her arm attacks in a braindead fashion, hardly ever putting herself at risk. Her also having good upclose get off me options was also an awful idea.

As one of two dozen currently living Mewtwo mains, Bayo is a huge pain but not quite as brutal as Fox or Falco. Falco in particular has that huge, quick, disjointed reflector to defend against shadow ball, and his combo game combined with Mewtwo's size and weight make the matchup pretty grisly. Both him and Fox just have every tool a character would want to mess Mewtwo up

Zelda main here, I'd say the hardest matchup is probably Palutena. Palu has fast and safe disjoints that are hard to deal with, significantly faster movement speed, and the ability to play the zoning game with Zelda and force an approach. On top of that she is quite tricky for Zelda to edgeguard.

I don’t think Palu has the range like ZSS. And although she can camp I don’t think it’s too hard to deal with as Zelda having Nayrus and phantom to hide behind. So ultimately she does have approach and get fairly close compared to ZSS

@@carcharo7 I was debating whether or not Palu or ZSS as the hardest. I think on stage zss’s range and movement options makes it almost impossible for zelda to catch. At the same time zss has to pick her spots very well to find kills since zelda otherwise zelda can do some good damage or potentially kill early with lightning kick or up b. So I find the matchup to be extremely slow with neither character wanting to approach but zss just has significantly better tools. Both matchups are pretty bad for zelda. ZSS will run away and win, but palu can just run zelda over and shut down anything she tries

Couple things, this is commenting on both this and the followup video: Very interesting and well researched overall, love how you elaborated on every mu and why they are bad. 1. Yoshi's worst mu is definitely Samus. Shulk is bad on paper but it's actually a matchup that Yoshi wins a lot and he has a lot of win conditions. Even in the clip you used, Ranger loses to Pharaoh way more than he wins lol. Samus is genuinely difficult and the Yoshis are LOSING that mu in practice, just look at Yoshidora vs Yuara(?). 2. There's no way that Meta Knight is K Rool's worst mu. It's probably Falco, Palu, or surprisingly Mii Gunner (look that one up, he quite literally will never get back to stage if gunner spams the grenades at ledge at a specific point). 3. Incineroar's worst matchup definitely isn't Zero Suit, I actually don't know if it comes close. From the good Incin's I've spoken to it's probably Min min or Mario. Skyjay vs Proto and Kurama at summit really highlights this. Min min also has the same justification as ganon (both characters are slow, have bad recoveries, and no tools to reliably deal with arms). 4. Mario's worst matchup is probably Ice Climbers, as he literally can't play the game against them as opposed to shulk. Mario mains win against Shulk fairly frequently, there are plenty of VODs out there, but you'll never see one beat an Ice Climbers on or near the level of Big D, it looks unwinnable, especially if you watched the Summit Set. Still a great video though some of these picks are mad confusing!

@@k-leb4671 Yoshi has a lower barrier to entry and an easier gameplan than Shulk and Shulk's gameplan to win forces him to win neutral over and over. He has to keep the yoshi out with well-spaced aerials but if he makes any mistakes, especially in buster, yoshi will just blow him up with combos/advantage state. He also has other win conditions like edge guarding with offstage nairs + it can be hard for shuilk to edgeguard him back because of the eggs + DJ armor. It's still bad for Yoshi but the Shulk has to work harder.

As an Ike main who has conversed with pretty much all the top Ike mains, the matchup most consistently viewed as his worst is ROB. Roy is bad, but ROB is worse-Ike can't get any advantage state going and just dies offstage.

15:00 Believe it or not, Ganon does have some wiggle room against those 2. Against Min Min, he can edgeguard her extremely well, and he has some way to deal with ARMS through clanking. Fun fact: Dragon Arm can't shoot the laser if it gets clanked (not Ganon specific but it's good info). Against Steve, blocks and minecarts become less of a problem due to Ganon's raw power, he can even Up-b Steve in minecart. With that said, I do agree that they're still difficult, and are by no means easy MUs, I just wanted to shed a little bit of light on 2 MUs I unironically love as Ganon. So I will state some counter points on the snake one. He can actually low profile the jab/nair lemons, crash bomb, and to an extent, bair. While his projectiles can be slowed a little, snake can still use them as area denial. As for the up air bit, simply letting go of cipher early can somewhat counteract it and can also drop and detonate c4s on a megaman who isn’t paying attention.

About Sonic, indeed he's a character that forces you to play his game. I'm a Wolf main and I have a rushdown playstyle, getting up close and personal. But against Sonic, I'm forced to change that and camp him. But by doing that, I'd dare say Wolf becomes quite the complicated matchup for Sonic. The laser can completely neutralize Sonic's spin dash on the ground. Also, with his great air mobility, you can just jump over Sonic and then he can't connect that Spin Dash. When playing on a stage with platforms, and Sonic wants to use the homming attack, camping him by staying under a platform does the trick quite easily. On FD, you can camp him too until he finishes the move and then punish him. Unfortunately, it becomes a game of "who tires the other out faster", and it's one of the most boring matches ever. But it works in the end.

Some things I want to add is that Wario hates Sonic (Im not sure if its his worst matchup but it is very bad), and Sonic may not lose any matchups but either Fox or Pyra/Mythra comes pretty close.

The reason esam thinks that Pikachu beats sonic is because in theory Pikachu can out time-out sonic because of t-jolt and quick attack and better reward for winning neutral interactions, fox and aegis may seem bad because they can catch sonic, but they are also extremely vulnerable to getting gimped, and if they lose first stock against sonic, the match is essentially over

Yoshi is actually very vulnerable off-stage and Puff has excellent edgeguard tools. The reason puff struggles is probably more because she can't travel vertically nearly as fast as Yoshi so he can avoid the edgeguard most of the time

Kazyua v Bowser **is not that bad at all**. It’s hardly losing. Kazyua’s neutral is the only thing that makes the matchup difficult. Kazyua’s has a terrible disadvantage, terrible off stage, and can’t get back from the ledge. Yeah we get comboed, but that’s about it

im so glad you said this about joker and chrom. I have been up two stocks vs a joker and they just get arsene and kill me at like 30% with his counter. Other characters like palutena or lucina chrom can perfectly space his up special and dodge the counters(this is honestly hard to do consistently), but joker hits no matter WHERE chrom up specials. Way below the stage? getting hit. All the way to the right? hit. Even at the end, coming straight down it stops chrom where he is and gets hit. Joker is the reason im trying to learn other characters since having THAT glaring of a weakness and disadvantage just makes me not want to play. Especially when joker is obviously top 5 and is seen everywhere.

So I play Samus, but I've never bothered to go out of my way to look at top player matchup charts to gauge matchup opinions. But when I saw Olimar on screen, it felt like I've known it in my soul for ages. Those little carrots block literally everything, and him being short makes it obnoxious to try to box with him. Edit: For PT, I'd actually say Squirtle is more obnoxious than Ivysaur. I mean all three are easy to deal with, but Squirtle can sometimes squeeze under medium charge shot from regular Samus (Not Dark though. Interestingly, Dark Samus' lower CS release makes it optimal in both our best and worst MUs). But a medium CS chews through Razor Leaf on reaction and usually hits Ivysaur for it. And if Ivysaur has to recover, morph bomb just says "no".

Honestly, as someone that plays a good amount of both samus and duck hunt, I feel like that matchup is on the same scale as olimar samus for the same reasons, can can either be used to counter pressure you from a range, or used as just a wall on the stage that blocks charge shot and has to be considered with every action, and while it's not an instant thing or anything, the gunmen can be used either for more pressure or for an easy block of a charge shot if necessary, which prevents any punishes that could come from a jump or shield stun.

I think it's crazy that Sonix lost to Riddle's Terry. It seems Terry has that x factor that other characters who lose the matchup don't: deals high damage on small strings and trades, and has a go meter so even if they're combo'd to high percents, they have go.

8:46 As a Bowser main who’s played a lot of the game by now, I completely disagree with what is being said here, especially about the Kazuya mu. It’s extremely hard for both of these characters to win neutral, if one of them wins the other is taking 0-100% before they can do anything, hence why this mu is often considered Truely even for Bowser. Steve I can understand but bowser doesn’t struggle with Steve as much as the little electric rat. Pikachu has been widely agreed apon worst mu for bowser because he’s a big target for pika’s multihit chains with fair and bair and makes it very difficult for bowser to win neutral thanks to their mashy based playstyle.

As a Bowser player, I think that Pika MU is better than Steve MU for Bowser cuz Pika isn't very good at killing, but Steve has countless kill confirms. Steve is also heavier than Pikachu, making the block-man harder to take stocks. With good timing, Steve can also ignore hits by pressing the B button at lower percentages, forcing Bowser to go for grabs and side-B until Steve's around 50%. I still believe that Bowser's 2nd worst MU is Pika. I def agree on the Kazuya MU, since Bowser has better OoS, Ledge-trapping, and edge-guarding game than Kazuya. Bowser can also use N-air as a landing option out of disadv. too, not only D-air and Down-B.

Auto-reticle is another reason why the Palu-Ness matchup is so bad. It can gimp his recover at most higher angles of recovery and his ascending speed is so bad at the start of his second jump, it will eat it a lot of the time if timed right. It also clanks and stuffs out his up special with the right timing too.

I was thinking Falco for Zelda. Zelda hates characters able to rush her down as she has almost no fast, reliable option besides Nair (Which is an inconsistent move). Remaining options are Dash Attack, Jab (which is also an oddity compared to most of the cast as she only has one hit instead of a multiple part combo so she doesn't move while doing it), her mediocre tilts (Up Tilt only true combos with the back hit and is pretty small for an anti-air, F-Tilt's a decent kill move with the sweetspot but nothing to write home about besides that, D-Tilt to Fair sometimes works with not much else you can do but bait/read an air dodge out of it), and Neutral B or Up B out of shield to get people off her in neutral (Second hit of Up-B is also DIable so some characters can get away with only the sour spot hitting them.) She has to fish for grabs or reads for fair/bair sweetspots and up air to get any real distance. (All of which she is punished for missing.) Therefore, she can't use her strongest point, Phantom when people are in her face all the time. The speed of Falco, the laser to interrupt Phantom summoning from almost anywhere on stage so long as he faces her (Unless she does the difficult displacement tech) and the mileage Falco gets from any combo starter he can easily hit because of Zelda's unsafe moves. On top of all that, he has a reflector. As a Zelda main, it's torturous.

if we have to say a bad matchup for Sonic is fox, pikachu loses because sonic has better camp than him and fox can always stay close to you and leave you no stage or time to think, which forces you to play in a very different and unique way, but it's still even lmao

Lucas main here, although sephiroth is definitely pain and suffering, it is nothing compared to the paid of game and watch. G&W can absorb all of Lucas’s projectiles and his juggling is almost impossible to escape with Lucas’s kit.

As a ness main I find lucina to be difficult. If you're off stage they can counter your recovery, they beat all of your aerials with range and speed, and are faster than your pk attacks. (And is just generally not affected by them either).

11:12 Imo ZSS is Zelda's worst matchup. She really suffers because she doesnt have enough time to set anything up before ZSS weaves through and completely decimates her, and even if she does manage to get something set up it only connects maybe 20% of the time because ZSs can just get away. On top of that, ZSS has nutty frame data and respectable reach on nearly everything thats actually important. The only way I can beat ZSS with Zelda is by using hard reads and prayers lol
