The last great Emperor of Byzantium Manuel Komnenos was buried here. His black marble multi domed sarcophagus still existed in the 16 th century. Sadly destroyed along with so many others.

The Monastery of the Pantokrator (Christ), is made up of two Byzantine Greek Churches and one Chapel joined together and represents the best example of Middle Byzantine architecture in Constantinople. After Hagia Sophia Grand Orthodox Cathedral, it is the largest Byzantine religious edifice, still standing in the City to this day.

Excellent video - very pleasing to see so many of the original elements carefully restored and preserved. The original Komnenian era flooring was particularly beautiful.
