@@stephenbirchall941Well, I answer (1) There are millions upon millions of internal- combustion vehicles, far more than EVs. (2) An enormous percentage of those ICEs are 10, 20, 30 years old, whereas most EVs are less than 10 years old. (3) A large percentage of ICE vehicles are in 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand ownership, bought by ppl who can't afford to maintain them carefully. (4) Most EVs are so amazingly expensve they can only be bought by ppl who can afford to maintain them carefully, and do so. If, with all these advantages of being fewer in number, newer, and better maintained, EVs keep catching fire, burning at 2000°C, and burning down nearby cars and buildings; and if they cannot be put out by normal firefighting methods; then it is fair to single EVs out as major fire hazards.

@@stephenbirchall941Ev numbers in rich, western countries stands at 2% of overall cars on the road, and is much lower in poorer countries. Many millions of ICE cars are well over 10 years old and are poorly maintained. If you on;y take all cars manufactured in the last 7 years, fires are split almost equally between ICE and EV, but as EVs only make up 2% of the vehicles, and with all things being equal EVs are actually 50 times more likely to catch fire when compared to the same age ICE cars.

Does it count as an EV fire if I start it myself due to the frustration of it breaking all the time? We got a new EV for solely financial reasons. Had it just under 8 weeks and it's back at the dealer for the FOURTH time. First time it failed to proceed and had to be taken, on the back of a diesel truck, the 175 miles home. I hated the idea of EVs before we got one. I hate it a lot more now. Even the AA seemingly don't know what to do with them.

It's not fit for purpose, time for a refund or take it to court. You have consumer rights. I'm not certain of the law but check it out sooner not later with trading standards. Do any communication in writing. Good luck.

I've looked up the law, the seller gets one chance to repair or replace the car after that you car get your money back or accept a discount ( I'd send it back and have the money) go to the ombudsman if the seller argues. Look it up on line, print it out, show it to most senior person in the company and send it to the registered office recorded delivery with a letter of complaint give them 14 days to reply or you complain to trading standards and the ombudsman. You only have 6 months from the sale so do it ASAP. Don't let them get away with riping you off. Good luck.

Was at a Reading bus depot in 2004 and they had a fleet of new buses being prepped for passenger use. When I asked a mechanic he said they cost £180,000 each (double deckers). When I said that the bus company must be doing well he told me no, the Govt. pays for them.

I commented last year on a vid by someone who had had his cable stolen more than once. I pulled him up on calling it not much of a problem as it was only £70 or so to replace the lead, saying it was quite a chunk of the shopping bill for the two of us at the time. I think he rethought his statement, as he acknowledged my post. An electric bus route is being built here in Dover that runs from the town up past the castle. Quite a climb on a bespoke road.

E pace aren’t EVs. There is a plug in hybrid one but having driven several I don’t see how that can happen (they are ok to drive but pointless) I think we have a dollop of driver error here. I used to work with a “professional” driver in a petrol car who did EXACTLY the same thing. Not standing up for EVs, I bloody hate them, but that one is a bit suspect!!!
