I'm 81 years old and needed a holster for a 1911 .45 acp and now have made nearly 40 holsters for various hand guns, thanks to youtube i have learned a lot. now people are asking about different things made from leather, i'm retired of course so i can afford to price things a lot lower than a professional and have lots of people wanting my leather craft. I started this after my birthday jan 31 ,2020

I know it’s 3months old, but it felt good to hear you say that our art isn’t dead. I’ve always said “yeah there’s not much of us”, but I like to think that it’s on the rise again. It seems there’s a maker popping up left and right doing all sorts of styles. Makes the ol ticker happy. 👍🏽

You're killing me Don, you "dabble" in art? I must say, that beautiful saddle on your DG Saddle homepage is a serious work of art! I imagine you personally cut and carved that entire saddle from raw materials. The cutting, shaping, drawing, carving, punching, fitting, and finishing of that saddle are incredible. I must say, being the master saddle maker you are, you must be a master artist in western/Sheridan art and in general leather crafting to even think about making saddles and again your saddles appear to be "world class" masterpieces. I say it that way because I personally have never rode a horse, but being an engineer I can appreciate the pieces you make for the craftsmanship. I also love the western carving engraving art you do, just looks perfect, be it for a holster, belt, gun belt, or engraving on a Colt single action. Reminds me of stuff I saw years ago at William S Heart park, just kind of old west John Wayne cool. One day, maybe a spread outside Abilene if I can land a job at the AFB.

I love that tip about using a tap off for belts. I've done it in the past for purse straps. Looks like my brother will be getting a new belt for Christmas!

Great video. I've had Al's encyclopedia for years, but now understand the leather measurements more. I've watched all your videos and you've probably touched on this. But could you demonstrate your technique, for bar grounding. I've tried doing it and always get frustrated and end up back grounding. Thank you.
