This has been going on for decades. In the parks, public bathrooms, gas stations, even in parks designed for mothers with their babies and kids. Signs starting popping up. No one allowed in the park after dusk. If you do not have a child with you, you cannot enter the park. No beverages or smoking allowed in these parks. Many prostitution stings are even set up in private hotel rooms, internet sites, and other places that aren't necessarily indicative of an intent to have sex in public. And usually when a cop catches a man with a female hooker, the public lewdness charge is secondary. It's mostly the act of sex in exchange for money that cops are targeting and zoning in on. So, if law enforcement genuinely cares about the specific issue of people having PUBLIC SEX, they should be arresting all segments of the population who do this, not just gay men.

Some of you sound so naive. This has nothing to do with "last days" or current culture. This type of behavior has been going on since man started walking the earth (and yes...in daylight as well..). Now, it does change, acccording to your culture or era you live in and especially affected by what your culture believes about sex in general. With all the many alternatives to this, why put yourself at risk? Some of you mention "motels and private homes". You have to understand, these guys are not looking for DATES....they just want quick, no strings sex. Most people would be floored if they knew the type of activity that goes on. Lots of unprotected sex of all kinds, with multiple partners in one evening. Some think they are invincible because of PREP, while ignoring all the other STIs they might possibly catch in the darkness. There are some guys who are sort of on the periphery of it all, just being curious or being voyeuristic. Others are almost professionals...going to these places EVERY single day, feeding their addiction. Many are married, or in professions where going through the hoops of setting up dates is not conducive to what they need. Quick, fast, exciting release. Sadly, there are many who just want male-male contact and think the lewd sex in a convenient location is the only solution...

Honestly, I could better understand this behavior for someone who lives in a smaller, less progressive place with fewer outlets for men who like men. But I don't know why gay men in ATL would need to risk their safety, livelihoods, and reputations by going to a public park or airport when considering that ATL is such a gay-oriented city with adult bookstores/theaters, bathhouses, etc. ATL has a plethora of options where you can go get your rocks off without risking an arrest or being spotted by innocent people. But regardless of where one lives, AT LEAST have enough discretion to not do things at places or during times of the day when families and kids are present. Be that as it may, the gay community has a valid point about the underlying homophobia that plays into these arrests. Straight people have tons of public sex, and we have to look no further than a lot of these popular porn sites to see the frequency with which straight people have sex in public places. Yet, we rarely hear of any arrests for the specific offense of public sex. The men who are arrested for soliciting female prostitutes are mainly arrested for the solicitation or precuring of the commercial sex itself; the men aren't being arrested for doing it publicly. Many prostitution stings are even set up in private hotel rooms, internet sites, and other places that aren't necessarily indicative of an intent to have sex in public. So, if law enforcement genuinely cares about the specific issue of people having PUBLIC SEX, they should be arresting all segments of the population who do this, not just gay men.
