Bob Glidden is arguably the greatest of all time (GOAT) in the ranks of NHRA pro stock. Beyond the records, wins, and championships he has one of the most iconic drag racing crashes that occurred at Atlanta Dragway in 1986 at the Southern Nationals. That set up the greatest NHRA Pro Stock comeback of all time (In My Opinion). Bob went on an absolute tear to comeback with numerous win and the 1986 championship. It didn't stop there! In 1987 he truly conquers the dragstrip at Atlanta in the Southern Nationals by winning. I was a Glidden fan and I hope you enjoy this look back to the greatest pro stock comeback.

Been around drag racing over 55 years and several things made Glidden my favorite racer. Always seem to be a gentleman and show respect to his competitors. Home grown family team that worked hard to move His program to the top. He never took the easy way by going with the GM cars that had far more research and development by many race teams than the Fords and his one championship with a Mopar just proved it was him not the manufacturer that made his cars fast.

Question, of all these 55 years what is your favorite era in drag racing and why ?
@1951RKP
@1951RKP 11 ай бұрын
@@Herkulez1981- I just today seen this question. I like the 70’s through the early 80’s before the computer age when the cars were tuned by the knowledge of the engine builders and crew chiefs. That really separated the most knowledgeable. When computers were installed on the race cars anyone who could read the data could tune a car. I never had a computer on any of my cars and there wasn’t even 60’ , 330’ , 660’ and 1,000’ foot timers in those days. We got the 1/4 mile time slip and that all we had to go by. I did race a Jerry Haas built Pro Stock car but was lucky I never had to test the roll cage like Glidden did. My family is still big into racing and engine building and doing very well. With all the electronics and computer data available and being used I doubt I could even figure out how to start todays race engines. Still love it and go to the races when I can.

The 1980s were a great decade as a Ford fan. You had Bill Elliott winning in Nascar. Jack Roush dominating Trans Am and IMSA GTO road racing. And Bob Glidden with the only Ford in the field putting everyone else back on the trailer.😉 It was a magical time. Thank you Bob and family.

Thanks for posting this about Bob AND his family because this was a very special group of people that you don't see today. I watched the Gliddens race all through their family racing career when I was a young man and I have never seen a more determined man achieve what he did as a racer , and engine builder !!!! Bob was a true gentleman , had a visibly strong family that supported him , and would lend himself to help anyone!!! Bob and his family were a great model for the public to view the sport of drag racing !!!! I was never a Ford guy ,but ;I rooted for Bob just because of the kind of example he set as a hard working , energetic , never say never kind of guy who would take whatever the circumstances and racing environment he was given to work with and find a winning solution !! A great Innovator , not a cheater , as he held himself to a higher standard in his integrity !!!!!!!!! I deeply miss seeing him !!!!

Bravo on one of the best Bob Glidden tribute documentaries available today. I've watched him and looked for every source of information on he and his family and dynasty since the early 80s. My grandfather owned a Ford dealership and loved Ford's as much as anyone could. He spent alot of his earnings to traverse the country and attending NHRA events. He witnessed Connie Kalitta become the only triple crown winner in nitro racing and he did it with CAMMER power. He could recite nearly any record or win of the Ford teams. His memory was incredible but the most so, with regards to racing. He would call my father theought the 80s, EVERY TIME Bob would break a record or win an event. It was so hilarious, but I love that so much about him. His love passed on to my father and I as well and we watched every race we could on the American Sports Cavalcade. Bob and the BOSS 429 TBirds were such an achievement since those engines were originally designed for the high bank ovals of NASCAR, but because of his 5 in a row GM was forced to design the DRCE. Bob is quoted saying in 87, "The more we win, the tougher it gets. General Motors is tired of chasing Ford, and the guys in the Oldsmobiles, the Chevies and the Pontiacs are all working overtime to catch us. GM is spending literally millions of dollars trying to beat Ford. It's my job to keep the T-Bird in the winner's circle. It's become not me against another driver, but me against General Motors." He will always be the true 🐐. Absolutely Amazing attention to detail in this excellent video. Its practically a mini-movie! Thank you for the time and devotion to give us such a great source of automotive historical information and imagery to honor such a legendary gentleman and competitor in the wildest motorsport in the world!

Bob will always be the best. His 78 Fairmont never lost a round, even in match racing. He singlehandedly won the manufactures cup over the horde of GM cars. Qualified number 1, set both ends of the record, won the event. Bob and Steve Schmidt were customers of mine. Bob always made me feel like he should be thanking me. He was humble and kind and affable. Not like that prick WJ who used to bitch and cry.

@@burningblue1254 Sorry to correct you but the Fairmont did lose rounds when Bob brought back the Fairmont after he lost the Chrysler sponsorship. The Fairmont did not lose a round the first year that Bob brought it out but the Fairmont of Bob Glidden did in fact lose rounds when he brought it back to replace the Arrow. There are plenty of videos on KZbin showing Bob losing a round in the Fairmont.

Thanks! The whole reason I put this one out was due to not having heard or seen in writ that framing of Atlanta to Atlanta. I would regularly see the 86' championship played as the ultimate comeback but I would feel that "no, you stopped to soon!" I hope to do more in this vein. This was full 16 hours of work with countless days of brainstorming. It's a lot of work with everything else that I put out. Maybe more in the coming off-season.

Gary Hajek Jr. was 1 of the 2 men who built the 7 & half barrel roll car in Atlanta. Dishbein was the other builder. Gary was the one at Jerry's, who did the vast majority of welding on the chassis. Billy called bk to the racecshop on Monday morning & said: "Dad crashed the car yesterday... He's ok, & said for you guys to start another car today!". 30 days, to the exact day, & Mad-Dogs semi backed up to the shop, & the car left the ole location on Emil to go to Whiteland. That included Hooker getting all the paint work done in that 30 days, 7 of which were while at Jims paint shop. There another great story told by Hajek when Bob stopped in on the way bk from Atlanta to discuss a few details on the new car to replace the crashed car. Another story for another day, perhaps. Thks for the video!

I think 1980 was his biggest comeback all be it in a Plymouth. He was ALMOST mathematically out of the championship hunt unless the leader Shepard went out early an he would have to win and set high speed and time records in the final race of the season. Well as we know he did it
