I have followed local council meetings throughout the valley for years - through the newspaper. Every town has had its turn at being the most interesting for different reasons. This one takes the cake by far. The mayor and two new councilmen should be extremely embarrassed by their actions. Unbelievable! I feel bad for Mr. Orzechowski and Ms. Thomas. They, and the citizens of Monessen, deserve more respect.

No wonder our town is going to hell in a handbasket!! We have rules and our mayor and the dude to the right are just spitting on us and our town!!!! How dare you!! To those who spoke up, thank you so much for caring about our town and us as citizens. We clearly need to vote those two OUT!! A new direction but I don't have to tell anyone, to hell with that!

This is bad. You can't break meeting protocol even if you are in the right. You can't continue with a vote if a council person wants to speak. You can't skip public contribution at the end of the meeting.

I feel for the citizens of Monessen! SOMEONE needs to get on the FACTS, the mayor is not even supposed to vote! look up the law and have him removed.

Monessen is classified by the state as a third-class city. That form of government includes an option where the mayor does vote and basically serves as president of the council. Please don't take this as an endorsement of his actions, just clarification about all of the various forms of local gov't allowed in PA: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_government_in_Pennsylvania#Third_class_cities

Personally, I commend the patience and tolerance of everyone in that room. I am very confident that I would have been arrested for cracking that gavel over his head. This is an example of what happens when the citizenry ignores local politics unless there’s a presidential election. Participate or be ruled by children.
