You are so very welcome! I really love pan pastels and often forget to use them! I’m definitely going to be doing more videos with them. FYI… I will have three tutorials this month featuring pan Pastels.

One of my favorite mediums, so versatile. They work well with almost every medium and with pastel pencils for details and patterns.❤❤

I got some of these after watching a video with Les Darlow, who does magical skies with them. There is a set of all 20 pure hues called the painting set that I've been wanting. It includes black and white so you can mix all the tints and shades from there. I love how they disclose the pigments -- and only use lightfast ones -- because that seems rare in the world of pastels! Another advantage is such a thin layer is applied, you can use unsanded paper as you demonstrated. It really saves the tooth of the paper so that you can apply sticks over the top very easily. Pastelmat is a wonderful surface for them as well, so it doesn't tear up your application sponges. But Les Darlow also enjoyed using them on Mi-Tients.

@@monetcafe It's been in my cart for a WHILE! I have a few tints and shades already, great for negative painting clouds on white Pastelmat...

The colorless blender might work when trying to glaze. Hue, tint, and shade. There you have it..! 👍

You had me at less dust lol, I have a couple colors I got to use in mixed media and now I want to play with them on their own. What fixative if any would you recommend?
@monetcafe5 ай бұрын
Hi Marie… I never use fixative to spray my final painting, but I often like to use it during the working process. My favorite fixative is Latour by Sennelier.
@mariedunn37745 ай бұрын
@@monetcafe Thanks for the response! I have hesitated with fixative because it seems to darken colors a bit. I use it in mixed media when only a bit of pastel is present and I think it may actually be the Sennelier that I have on hand. I’m primarily a watercolorist so fixing finished work is not usually something I do.

Always wanted some pan pastels but their cost is so prohibitive

There are many smaller sets and the thing is, they last for such a long time. They are so smooth. Even if you used it for backgrounds I think they turn out to be a good value.

They have a cancer warning on the package

Anything with dust can potentially cause cancer really. These are much dusty than sticks.
