Thank you so much for your continued support friends. It is with these real talks that we become better. Its not easy, that I know for sure. But it is with every conversation that we become more aware. As I said to Skhu, I'm grateful that we compliment each other very well. While I struggle to spend money, he reminds me to be more present and aware of TODAY. It is with these intentions that we would like to bring you more of these topics. We are not expects. We just happen to share our experiences freely. God bless you friends.

As a white South African watching this, I admire the empathy with which you approach looking after family members. I appreciate the understanding that your husband has towards you having to look after your mom. I also admire the fact that an old person in your family isn't getting stuck in an old age home. Although it's not always the case that a white person will be stuck in an old age home (my gran lived with my aunt), I agree that the Western outlook on having to look after a family member is a burden. I hope to have the spirit of Ubuntu in my family.

In my culture, the male child was expected to take the responsibility of looking after parents, that’s why parents invested more on the male child than the female child. Females were expected to leave the family to go join another family. Females once married, the expectation is that they support their husband’s family. The support to the parents of the wife was just a bonus, usually once or twice a year, whereas to the other side regularly as you would your children. This was because males where the breadwinners. The difficult situation today is our parents are from a generation where males where breadwinners, and today that is not necessarily the case. So vele the parents of the man will have a perception that it’s our son’s money, so you have to give it to us. Unfortunately family dynamics are not always the same, some like my parents only had girls, sometimes the woman is the breadwinner, sometimes they don’t get to leave per se. As a couple in today’s generation, it’s important that you have this discussion before the “I dos”

Soon I will be approaching retirement. I need to work on my wealth. We have tried to assist our extended families from both families. However now that some completed their journey to better their future I have decided to step aside. Now I only help where I can. What I did was also to leave my family in the village so that they do not become a financial burden in terms of standard of living in the city. I just build a home where they are. On what Skhu is saying about a Female child, Females are expected to go and start their own family which is why in the olden days girls were not even allowed to finish school because it was said that they are raising her nor another family. They even considered it as waste of money. Boys were raised in a way that one day they will have to be able to take care of their family. But I must say that times have changed, I am the 1st born at home and I have to do everything. My mum does not understand when I say I don't have money. I have to take care of her and my little bro back at home, my sister that I live with and myself. It really gets too much at times.

@@MillieChimb it is indeed very painful because you have to put your dreams and plans on hold for your family. And at times you can't even have saving because truth be told, we have weaknesses for our family. Our parents can blackmail you when you say you don't have money.
