But it’s in a great area, the utilities are low, we got an amazing rate, and the resale value will be better since we don’t plan to live here forever. (Smaller houses in this area are harder to resell and/or generally not in great areas.) You guys talking about student loans is so scary I’m SO glad I didn’t take any out for my undergrad and that I’m taking a year off of school to save all the money I need for grad school. I’m 22 and financial stability is incredibly important to me. I’m avoiding debt at all costs, keeping my expenses low, and increasing my income in every way I can because I want to retire early as well ❤️ However, what does it mean to max out a 401k, Roth IRA, HSA? 😬
@OurRichJourney4 жыл бұрын
Yes - student loans can be a major problem. :( As for maxing out the 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA - there is a maximum amount that you can contribute to those accounts each year. When we say "max out" those accounts, we mean put the maximum amount that you're allowed into those accounts. For example, in 2019, the maximum contribution to a 401k was $19,000 for people under 50. In that example, we mean contributing $19,000 (the max) to the 401k. Hope that helps! :)

PSLF programs are true loan forgiveness: you won't be required to pay income tax on the amount forgiven. IBR or other income driven repayment plans have a forgiveness timeline of 25 years, and the amount forgiven is treated as income.

Turning 40 this year! I am excited to see what moves I can make to hopefully retire in my 50's. My job offers a pension but the age limitations are ridiculous. In order to retire with a full pension, I will have to work until I am 67. You all give me hope! I understand now that the job will not determine when I can walk away and retire... I will... Continue on with the wonderful work you are doing! Thank you.
@mogain92584 жыл бұрын
ruth mendez You may want to look into what the benefit formula and vesting schedule are for the pension. Usually you will still earn a benefit is you only stay at the company for part of the period before the normal retirement age, it just might not be the full pension. Even if you retire in your 50s, the pension may still be an asset.

I'm 35 and I just started looking into the Fire community and Dave Ramsey 2 years ago. I need one more side hustle with my regular salary I'll be done with all CC debt by May of this year. I'd love to retire by my early to mid 40's.

Any recommended podcasts? I'm the reader but my hubby wants nothing to do with books. Thought maybe a podcast would help him learn these things with me.

Brandon Dell it really is a good investment for families who are 100% sure their kids are really going to go to college. as for us, our kids have an option to go to college outside of US. And when they do, we can pull money out from the account WITH penalty.

Such clear and precise instructions. Logical and simple. Great job!! Thank you for suggesting folks in their fifties and sixties, too, had a chance. There is hope for me, yet 😃.

I'm going to do more than just watch your videos, if you guys can do it i can to. I set a goal to retire in 12 years which will put me at 42. Start with a goal and work towards it one day at a time.

Question - ROTH IRA, the $6,000 can be taken out whenever but the growth has to wait to be withdrawn at 59.5. I don't think the conversion ladder applies in direct roth ira contributions as opposed to 401k-ira-roth ira- wait 5 years - withdraw
