In deed ! Dan's style is usually closer to my wheel-house ..but that Strat & Mick.. Damn . Bloody hell..the tone.. This video, gents..is my absolute favourite guitar tones..ever.. Both clean and crunch & higher gain. Specially the clean on both . PS: the Vox (with the Celestion Green series speakers) and Dan's red Tele..is also on that very Top. This was Glooorious....... Thank you so much. Kudos from Portugal . PPS : sorry if u have, and I missed it.., but have you ever tried a Stereo, or a Wet/dry/Wet setup with a Twin Reverb & a Vox AC30 ?

This series is super entertaining. Maybe on suggestion: A rig in between dirt cheap and overly expensive, for the working man musician. A rig that is versatile for gigging, rehearsing and practise. I'd love your educational take on this. If you were a guitarist in a band that plays mostly small clubs, and you were to start over, which essential gear would you choose?
@jimmythefish
@jimmythefish 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be great. One guitar? I wonder whether they'd recommend something traditional like a Blues Jr and a Tele or think digital and versatile like an HSS strat with a THR100 or something like a Blackstar Silverline...would be a good episode.
@saint-cetacean
@saint-cetacean 4 жыл бұрын
For a standard, Fender inspired blues/rock/flexible rig, I think a Fender American Performer of your choice and a Bassbreaker 30R would be a great start, plus a selection of pedals to your tastes, probably a versatile OD/Distortion (1981 DRV?), mod of some sort, and a delay (maybe?)
@jimmythefish
@jimmythefish 4 жыл бұрын
Den I//Noble Russkie I’d have the American Performer Tele with the split coil humbucker in the neck, the THR100 and drive, reverb, delay, distortion and tuner pedal. Fully reliable, giggable and insanely flexible rig for $3k US or so.
@saint-cetacean
@saint-cetacean 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimmythefish Those THRs are amazing amps, can't fault you there!! For a long time I was considering using one for my stereo rig before I decided on a JC40. I did keep my pedal selection to 3 pedals, as per the brief though ;)
@patrickbrown8540
@patrickbrown8540 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! Something like a Squier guitar, with a blues junior, with a mix of like MXR and boss or tone city pedals. That makes a nice in between and will give great sounds. I would love to see Dan and Mick play that setup though.

Malcolm Brown I’m not sure I would go that far. For example for a long time Fender didn’t make left handed Precision basses. That may even still be the case, I haven’t checked but this is also my point. I have to get to know the bass I have. I did manage to find an older one. I’m not looking for a “better” one. I think it forces you to look at other manufacturers because with for example Fender and Gibson you can’t check out dozens to find a good one. Better to buy from a company with better quality consistency then your left handed is likely to be better. I have a Les Paul and I don’t like it but I can’t try out lots to find a good one so I bought a Heritage. When it comes to vintage you can get into serious GAS which to be honest I think Dan is suffering from. That Tele he has is good. The Strat Mick played is obviously very nice though.
@ryanstark2350
@ryanstark2350 4 жыл бұрын
There is another advantage to being left handed. Nobody I know can play my guitars. Another factor is that I think right handers find it harder to work out what you are playing but if you are left handed you are used to watching right handers. This would be a kind of mean advantage though.

Mick, I'm really smitten with the finish on the '61 Strat and decided to do a bit of digging and found that the defined stages of sunburst wasn't uncommon during the 60's. Indeed there is a '64 Strat in the Guitar mag "Stratocaster Bible" that clearly shows the three black/red/amber colours (although really worn) almost identical to yours. Whoever did the refinish on the '61 did a really good job. I think it's gorgeous and sounds celestial.

This is the reason why we spend the money....TRULY EPIC TONES! What it be like if you had a corollary show. Same, but with five pedals in stead of three?

My first thought at the title was of course Klon, then a Cheese Source. Just need some absurd delay/reverb and you're set.

You know how everyone at a wedding says to watch the groom’s face when the bride enters? That’s nothing compared to watching Dan’s face while Mick plays around 38:00...

People have been mocking the sunburst on the strat? Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Typical internet experts and keyboard warriors at work again :) Great episode, merry Christmas and happy new year :)

Right, now that i have run out of tears of joy, I have to boil this down to two things: 1) That two rock, wow. Feeding back gloriously on the *clean*.... never mind the beautiful natural compression and recovery it has.. 2) That strat.....I reckon most of that tone is the pickups being very reactive, touch sensitive, probably not over potted nor over wound. Great. Did Dan put a rig together at all, I must have missed it ??

Lead tone goes to Mick. Rhythm tone goes to Dan. What a great demonstration of different tastes that both work supremely well in their own ways.

For my taste, Dan's cleaner tones crushed Mick's, but Mick's cranked fuzz tone crushed pretty much ALL dirt tones I've ever heard. I've been aspiring for a setup where I can go from those kind of cleans to that kind of fuzz, with a single rig.

If you’ve got the cash splash it, and you should not be embarrassed. Fender all the way, the Strat & the Two Rock or the Tele & the Two Rock I’d be very happy with either. Brilliant video Dan & Mick. 👍🏻😎👊🏻

I sold Soundgas a Grampian 636 Reverb in awful condition a few years ago. Can't remember how much I sold it for, but it was rusted right through in multiple places. I'm curious as to whether they were able to resurrect it or not

Dan’s rig turns the Teles into thick, rich humbucker loaded guitars. Might be too much on a LP? Great tones! Mick’s rig tone is other worldly! Cheers from Las Vegas, USA.

I'm only 2 minutes into the video, I know what I'd do; But first, a question; Does an echo unit like a binson count as an effect pedal? If so, Strat, Fuzz Face, Wah pedal, echo unit, Hiwatt If not, I'd add a Phase90 for some extra layers Sound as inspired as possible; and Gilmour is my main inspiration

Hey guys have you ever tried the “secret overdrive” trick with any pedals? On Knobs’ Instagram he was saying when co-writing the Pedal Crush book that he discovered that analog pedals overdrive when overloaded so with enough clean boost going into an analog pedal (no matter what kind) and with a master volume on the pedal to compensate, you would get an unintended overdrive from the pedal that would bring out amazing sounds! I would love to see a video exploring this! So if it’s true then any analog pedal is also an overdrive pedal! 😂

Loved this episode! The biggest difference I'm hearing between the vintage guitars and your old faithfuls is clarity. The vintage guitars just have great clarity and note separation across the entire range. Both red and blue get a little muddy, blue falters a bit more. This is especially true when gain comes in. The vintage guitars still sound crisp to where all the sounds are still there. Who knows why that is the case, but that's what I'm hearing.
