I have not worked in US. But I am currently working and living in Singapore. Though the cost of living is higher we can still save money and invest in India for our future. The life experience and work experience you gain abroad teaches us a lot of things. It also helps in our professional careers when we come back to India. Companies pay more if you have worked abroad.

Very true. I was in U.S for 7 years. American Government make us indirectly to spend all our salary in their country itself. Those who are drawing ten thousand dollars salary monthly feel it difficult to meet their needs. But those in own business and people working in hotels (they get free accommodation and free food) are able to save money. This is the hard reality.

Military Industrial complex is well corrupted. people in US work hard to meet daily needs. You can live in US for 1-2 year without job but in India even village people own house and can be without income for years. Health care is horrible. Dentist urgent care $400 minimum with good insurance. India you are surrounded by relatives and good friends.

How good or bad life is in USA depends on the mindset. It is not money alone for everyone. There is something called work culture, which is far better in US than in India. In USA they don’t expect you to be on duty 24 by 7 . After 5 PM or 4 30 PM you are not disturbed and they don’t expect you to work on Saturdays and Sundays (I am talking of U S companies not outsourcing companies). Also if one is interested in research kind of activities, U S is better than India. There are some minuses also, but then if life itself is a compromise one has to take things in his/her stride.

This video reeks of generalizations. If you have the right skills and smarts, drawing a comfortable six figure salary as an immigrant is commonplace in the US. Work life balance in the US is way better compared to India and other Asian countries. Gardeners and house cleaners are very much affordable. The reality is that there are tradeoffs to be made regardless of where you live, choose wisely and you will be happy no matter where you call home.

If you remain conservative while working abroad, you definitely can save good amount of money. Of course by sacrificing family relationships, food, and culture. There are also some perks of working abroad such as - you get better at money management, you're exposed to a different culture and you learn and appreciate good things about that culture, you get more personal time to think and shape your future, and then you get to travel around. It's been 5 years for me in Europe and planning to go back to India after 3 years. Idli, vada, sambhar is a different feeling!!😋 I concur with Mr Anand Srinivasan.

On savings... For masses maybe, bt not entirely I am just a normal bca grad moved few companies and currently working with Amazon chennai. I make 5L per month in cash and another 5L gets vested as stocks. So purchasing power and savings are better here nowadays atleast. Am 12years old in IT industry. My wife makes another 60-80K per month with her dance school. I agree the infra is different bt money wise, it's all about how you're able money manage. Why would I need to be so conservative when am able to spend. I've recently bought a premium suv, live in a separate house of 2400sqft with 2storey, have bought couple of flats for backup alongside stocks, mfs, got few prop investments in Dubai. Money management is way better here in India

I made similar calculation before i go went to USA .. In USA everyone from rich to poor has to do DIY cause labour cost is high. Which is good I would say a u learn to not to have two kombu when u have money and treat others with respect. And cars are cheaper in US petrol is cheaper and most other goods are cheaper and better quality in US . Main stuff school is free is here till 12th . And insurance though expensive (Mostly paid by employer ) covers everything. Not like in India u pay 50k and u get 5lk coverage . Athuku mela na pe pe .. A developed country means things are cheap and labour is expensive (for a reason) . Then only all can be happy . In India things are expensive and labour is cheap .. So people who like being masters and need slaves (low paid servants ) would love India and despise any developed country

Also, one of the most underrated aspects is the education expenses is zero in Europe even until university. Secondly, medical expenses and pension are taken care of by social security. Work life balance is much better. Although it is true that one has to do all the menial jobs themselves. Top it all, you also get cleaner air, water, etc. For Anand kind of sliver spoon bois, it is too much to give up. For people working as "maids" at Anand's home there isn't much India is offering that is lost to begin with. So going abroad is a sure shot time tested way for social mobility.

But in India it is completely free, people don't prefer government due to status but in Europe they don't have any option and justify themselves as they don't have money to go for private.

@@religiouslyscientific4371 I work in Switzerland. I pay 12 % tax. Schooling for children is free. Health insurance is mandatory it is around 10% (actually even less, I am giving a fair esrimate). The usual unemployment insurance, partial pension(you can have Elss type schemes to this as well over the minimum), etc are also included. Before this I worked in France. There I used to pay very high tax (hidden) around 60-70%. Where health insurance and pension are totally covered. I have zero regrets in paying the higher tax because I can see the value for money. I have fair bit of idea how american, German, Scandinavian and Canadian system works as I have travelled there and my friends/batch mates living there. And btw, before moving to Europe I worked 3 years in India and I graduated from a top tier college in India (just to tell you it is not my lack of opportunities in India which drove me abroad). I am telling this out of sheer experience. You can say tech industry in Bangalore has been on steroids in the last decade or so. Even then I still see lot of my peers (who would be literally top 0.1% or even more). Don't believe all the arm chair philosophers always skeptical and want to stay in their own comfortable wealth accumulated by a previous generation. (Anand Srinivasan's dad itself work in Middle east leaving him the luxury to talk bullshit about working abroad). Even all the greats he keep quoting like Raghuram Rajan, etc all moved out. They are not stupid. So you also don't be. Btw, Don't get me wrong I have no second thoughts about my India and one day will return to serve my country. I can take care of more people India when I can first take care of myself first. All this international exposure gives me just that. (Case in point say handling French language clients, one of my cousin returned from Japan after 10 years and running a language school cum-consultancy).

@@arneshpalanisamy6352 I work in UK because I couldn't find a job for my skill level. It is easy to get job when you are from IIT in India. But can you continue getting job after 10years of experience. No it didn't happened in my case as no company is ready to match salary as there is no need of high skill level. In India if you pay 30% tax, 10% health insurance and 10% on education, then it is still less than 70% but you can use private facility instead of government. I agree with your opinion that old generation earned lot of money abroad. A graduate from IIT in 1995 would earn 1.5L pa as average salary whereas in US it is about 45000USD as average salary. But now, average salary for IIT is more than 12L. Roughly 8times higher but salary in US hardly increased by 1.5times. So the wealth gained by old generation is roughly 5times higher than the current times. It is not really worth for the compromise, when you weight tangible and intangible benefits. But it is not true for all, for low wage jobs in India like a Infosys employee or plumber moves to abroad they can earn a lot. But a doctor can earn a lot in India than in US. It all depends on how much you could earn in India and how much you get in abroad. It is only worth moving if salary in abroad is 4times or more higher than in India. Also remember yearly hike in India is usually around 10% in good companies but generally very low in Europe and US.

We are in isolated geography, tensed due to visa reasons, no real relation to look each other, Worrying for too high college cost and post covid the cost of living is too high to survive and I am earning better than median salary here but cant sustain in single salary for a middle class family. So thinking to live a calm life in India soon.I don’t know why I am still here in US. BTW, 1 Gallon petrol = 3.78 Litres

If you are already rich by inheritance , then USA won't excite u. I have seen many friends going back to India, as they have some support there. So just write down and compare how much u save in India vs USA every month. Convert USD to INR. You will know the difference. If it is less or equal then u can decide to go back or change job. Compare the quality of life (power cuts, water, weather, internet, road condition, corruption, school fee etc). Working hours is a joke in India. No more wfh. For some people from Mumbai it may be same but many other cities are different. Most of the americans do not pay for kid's college. so we have to change our mindset.

I will be 60 soon. I have a US passport and OCI card but for the past 3 years I live in my hometown near Chennai, India. I worked for 4 years in Qatar before returning home. To put it a nutshell I went to US with borrowed money from mom and brother and when I left in 2015 I had 200k in TIAA retirement account and 10,000 in credit card debit. The reasons are many. The 4 years in Qatar was the best (1C in hand) due to 100% Income tax free and no sales tax/GST either. My good times in Qatar ended abruptly due to health reasons. So it all depends on the individuals situation. There is no match for having a US experience professionally. Also it is very good for your kids future. My only son (90s kid born in 1993 in India) got a Computer science degree in a good university and landed up with Northrup Grummen as a cybersecurity software engineer within a few months of completing the degree. Recently he married his high-school sweat heart (I was not informed or invited!!!) who had a PhD degree in chemistry from Duke University and working in a private company. One thing Anand sir mentioned is correct. My ancestral home value in India now is worth more than all of my lifetime savings working abroad. But still I don't regret about my choices as India is not great for those who practice academic science after a PhD degree.

The first year in USA or any new country would be tough. Because we come with just 2 suitcases. I have experienced this first hand. But try to bring your family sir. Don't go back. Having the family with you in USA is not expensive, but definitely it will give u a lot of moral support. U will save money by homemade meals. U can share your household chores with wife and save time. Having ur wife with u will make u feel safe and supportive than with friends. You can concentrate on your job better. The first few months to 1 year will be difficult. But everything gets better and u will get used to this culture after u buy your car , driving license. Don't stay in shared accomodation with friends anymore after your family arrives. Definitely the family too deserves abroad life. My husband came first and stayed in shared accomodation first. But he didn't like it, He was also saying the same as you. But he asked me to come. As soon as I arrived he started feeling confident here in USA. I just came with some basic necessities like Indian mixie, dosa tawa, a pr cooker, idly plates and cookware (at that time getting these in USA was not possible). My husband says till today that he is very much thankful to me for coming here leaving my job, own house and luxuries of India behind for him. I won't say it's an easy path, but I am sure you will work better, save more and feel happy only if you bring your family along with you. Until then you won't feel at home. America is such a wonderful country and it's a blessing to work here in my view. Best wishes to u and family.

There is difference between going to USA in yester years and now. Previously settling down in USA was an option. Now it is not easy due to green card wait times. Especially if your kids were not born in USA. When the kids turn 18, they will be treated as foreigners to even to apply to colleges in spite of them growing up until the end of high school without much connection to India. When you convert money from USD to INR definitely you are very rich. You learn to do lot of things yourself. Gain lots of different perspectives. But definitely think about the kids if they are not born in USA. USA or India you always need to enhance your skillset for any job except may be in government, but not everyone can get into a government job.

Hmm I don’t know if I agree with him fully on this. This is applicable only when your having ancestor have big property in area like Chennai what if that is not the case. There are only 0.001% people in india are such privileged. If you have to live in USA you have to adopt American life style so you can make more out of your life. But I agree with lots of issues living in America like visa issues , systemic racism’s, distance from relatives , unaffordable maids for middle classes etc etc but that is how American working class life is. One thing people should be aware is better to understand all of these factors before decide to move.

While comparing prices in India and USA, you have failed to take into account purchasing power parity despite stressing it. The average salary in USA is 6,000 dollars and this has to be multiplied by exchange rate of 82 to restore it to Indian value. . So if the price of cinema ticket is 1,500/- in USA then it only means that on a earning of Rs. 4,80,000/- you pay Rs. 1,500/-. On the other hand, average salary in India is about Rs. 40,000/-. Even if the same cinema ticket costs Rs.300/- here, it is more costly in terms of paying capacity.

@@dhoninichu9851 If somebody is earning 1.5 lakhs in India, then it is not an average salary, but in the higher income category. By the same yardstick, the equivalent salary in USA would be some where around 10,000 dollars or even more per month. So the same logic that I professed will apply even then when it all comes to purchasing capacity.

@@nr9926 If it is 3000-4500 USD take home , then proportionately you most reduce the Indian salary as well when you make a comparison. In that case, average salary will not be 40,000/-, but only 20,000/- and even this a brute majority aren't privileged to earn in India going by our low gross percapita income.
