Pretty sure the only reason the Mongols didn't properly invade Europe was because as they were going further into Hungary after their victory their great Khan Ogedi (?) died so the Mongol generals all had to return home to choose the new khan.

The Mongol Empire overextended itself and grew too fast for its own good, plus they didn't have a solid political structure to provide proper governance. The reason they were so strong was because of their military prowess, they conquered freaking everybody and were not shy about razing an entire city with such brutality that other cities would surrender to avoid that fate, this generated tribute which kept them going. Eventually though, internal problems began and Genghis died, questions succession weakened the Mongols and the cracks began to appear.

They didn't own that much of Russia in the first place. They never owned Novgorod and even then the rest of Russia were tributaries who the mongols didn't really conquer. Also they owned most of Anatolia but I think Drew forgets any other command other than annex.

@Drew_Durnil, the reason the US and/or UK declare war on Mexico every time in Road to 56 is because Mexico has a focus to nationalize their oil industry, and if they do that focus it gives the US/UK the option to declare war. So drew if you read this. The reason that Allies and USA may attack Mexico is due to the decision of nationalising their oil. Usually the AI makes this decision when the world tension is high and therefore they don't get atrack by US or the Allies. You turn on the random focus mode and they make this decision way earlier, due to lower world tension war happens. Road to 56 team has worked really extensive to make Mexico have a historical game.

I believe that in the time of Ogedai khan mongol scouts actually reached the border to italy and their army was marching towards France, not sure what went wrong though as there was no powerful enemy to oppose them.
