The elegant dances perfectly match with the joyful "Hujia" (nomad reed pipe) music. To celebrate the chief’s return with his new bride Princess Zhaojun, they sing and dance happily, showing the enthusiasm of the Xiongnu people.
塞外风情，倒喇之戏，顶上燃灯，轻旋慢舞。
匈奴女子们端庄优雅的舞姿，与欢快的胡笳声完美契合，为庆祝归来大婚的单于，也为欢迎远嫁至此的昭君。草原上欢歌载舞，尽显匈奴人民的热情。

You're quite right. This is not totally Mongolian dance. The historic background of this dance drama (marriage between Princess Zhaojun of Han Dynasty and the Chief Chanyu of the steppe confederation) took place in 30 BCE. At that time the vast steppe region in the north was ruled by the Xiongnu people. (Mongol people only came one thousand years later.) In 91 CE, Xiongnu's kingdom was finally defeated by Han Dynasty and fled west, and appeared as Attila The Hun in Europe during the 5th century CE. And along the way, they probably scattered their people and left their cultural marks among the locals.

中国歌舞剧院的这支舞融合了哈萨克族舞蹈的黑走马，蒙古人的舞蹈，还有藏族舞的一些元素，音乐也有蒙古马头琴，哈萨克冬不拉，现代乐器的元素，很难说是纯粹的蒙古舞，我认识的哈萨克族朋友看到这支舞气的要跳脚。顺带提下这帮妹子跳的采薇舞也很看。

This was so beautiful. (please, someone tell me I was no the only one who heard the "Dig and dig and dig and diggety" part of "Mine Mine Mine" from Pocahontas in the opening measures. The rhythm was spot on. //dead)
